Front license plate needed in CT?
i just recently registered my vette in December, got two plates, forgot to ask if we still needed front license plates because ive seen a lot of people without them recently and my friend who got his 2007 mercury serviced at a jaguar/bentley dealership said there was no need for one anymore, so im not sure if we still need one
If you know, i'd appreciate it, if not, ill try calling the dmv tuesday |
yes absolutely you do.
i was at ct dmv a few weeks ago and asked this question a couple of times and in a couple of ways. got the same answer. twice. and that would be: YES. :willy: |

I've been driving my Corvettes with no front tags in CT for years. Never a problem for me. On rare occasion you will hear of someone getting a ticket for no front tag in CT.
|
Legally, yes you do, I've talked with several Police Officers about this at various times. They all agree that usually it is overlooked however it does give them the right to pull you over. If you're not confrontational and there are no other violations you most likely will get a warning. Worst case is it's a $100 fine but it does not affect your insurance. I actually bought my car from a Police Officer who didn't run a front plate, he agreed it is not the most attractive thing on a Corvette. Also was at a show and a uniformed Officer walked up to my car and is eyeing the front end, I'm thinking OK this is it, he looks at me, smiles, and say's "nice car". It's your car and your choice.

I've gotten one ticket and it was just under $100 for no front plate on the c5, it was a holiday weekend seat belt check on the exit ramps by state cops... he seemed annoyed that I had my belt on and wasn't speeding. What bugged me was on renewing my insurance it showed as "improper registration, failure to display or misuse of tags" basically the same as if I put the plates on from another vehicle or didn't have a plate or current reg. So it could effect insurance IMO. I still don't run the tag but I did buy one of those nifty electric front plate mounts that I want to try and fit over the winter.

Picking my new 11 up this week and SPECIFICALLY said..no plate / no holes in my new vette...Told them I wouldnt go through with the sale if they did..
can they give you a fix it ticket for it ? ..that would require you to put one on or not pass inspection..? |

But I don't!!! http://forums.corvetteforum.com/pict...ictureid=74189 |
Yes you are supposed to have one. I know lots of people who do not run with one on. However like vcam stated it does give them a reason to pull you over. Two beers at a local bar and no front license plate could possibly end in a DWI (worst case, but possible). I personally would not put one on a vette, they are just plain ugly on these cars.

You are breaking the law if you do not have a front licence plate.

Just talked to a Bristol cop yesterday, again confirmed can pull you over but very rarely ticket for that offense.

Haha when I'm turning 18 in a month and tickets are a bad thing, I think it's better to have a little "ugly" on the vette just to make sure I don't screwed over

Smart move - life is not fair - cops pay lots more attention to 18 year olds, especially in Corvettes. Speaking of life not being fair I'm too embaressed to tell you what I had to drive at 18.:willy: Enjoy the ride:thumbs:

They look for reasons to pull over kids especially in a corvette. When I was 20ish I had a 1995 z-28. I was pulled over almost daily for everything they could think of. It was annoying. winter project.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoODM7dSULQ "what do you mean I don't have a front plate, can you check again?" Donalds5 - You live right down the road from me. I'll keep an eye out for you this spring. |
I know one thing as for riding a bike, you do not need to wear your helmet, sorry that i am hijacking.
very nice, indeed |

Yep, East Hampton here, and go to school in Middletown. I like my part of the state except for the select few groups that give your town a bad name. "yay for biggest meth lab in ct" haha
haha and I always head down the street for that 7-Eleven Trip for a SLURPEE once in a while What are your plans for the Vette? Are you going to keep it stock or are you going to Mod it? |
Yeah Middletown for four years and then East Hampton for fourteen, and with 31,000 miles on the car dude, I think she's staying stock apart from a few things I'll add(new exhaust eventually, hopefully a corsa) and I think I'm going to get the fender gill LED lights with a remote control for those nights where I want to show it off, hopefully it looks nice,
But yeah, I don't want to over do the car, just those little things to add some style, black sill covers, switch cover plate. Etc Any suggestions? |
Yeah I hear you on the low miles, mine has 37,000 on it. I was going to keep it all original too. Then I bought the Z06 wheels and was going to keep the rest stock. Then I installed a pioneer double din DVD player and a 12" sub. Then I removed the Cats. Then I lowered it. Then I put a short shift kit in it. Now I am going to night shade the taillights, fog lights, and side marker lights. I am also going to tint the windows either this week or next. I am also planning out a 383 with a 6 speed combo on paper that I may or may not do in two years. It is like a friggin disease!
If you want to keep it stock that's cool too. It looks like you have some rims on it. Carbon fiber dash kit. You could do a stereo. You could replace all the interior lights with LED's. Tint the windows, but CT can be pretty tough on that. |

With 31k I would stay stock unless there are a lot of imperfections in the car. Instead of modding I would would fix/repace any of the small imperfections like cracked weather stripping, scratched/cracked interior plastic, carpets if necesseary, etc. Check out " My Corvette Photos" of my 89 with 62k. Its mostly stock:thumbs:
