Awesome Brett.
Looks good sitting next to certain 53's and 54's I know :)
guys at the shop did a nice job.

Vette Daddy 05-05-2011 04:23 PM

The door handles and door glass are now in. We installed the hood and adjusted the front bumper today. Now, onto the sanding and buffing tomorrow. The headlights will go in tomorrow, also. I need to get this thing home and detalied before next Wednesday.

Pretty dusty but I just had to take some pics with the hood installed. I worked pretty hard to get the panel fitment right.

There are SO MANY adjustments to the front end that you can get it to fit if you massage it enough.

I actually cut my own gap along the center part of the hood/bumper so the corners would be tighter at each end. I took out enough shims from the bumper and hood so they would be touching. That brought in the corners. I then cut the gap between the hood and bumper. Excellent fit at that point.

Adjustment of the inner fenders is also a big part. The inner fenders control the fender part of the bumper cover. I shimmed and elongated some of the mounting holes until I was satisfied with the fit.

All in all, I'm almost 100% happy with it. I'll tweak it some more after Bowling Green.

Stingray1967 05-06-2011 02:53 PM

Very, very cool. ZR-1s were my favorite car growing up. I'm hoping to bring my car to the NCRS Nationals in 2012. Maybe I'll see you there? I'll be the one with the red Corvette. :D

Vette Daddy 05-06-2011 10:19 PM

Finally got it home from being sanded and buffed. Emblems, headlights and windshield banner now in place. Only have to install the B pillar weatherstrip and it's ready for Bowling Green!:woohoo::woohoo:

I probably won't take it anywhere again until I have time to get it running. I intend to make it run over the Winter months. I might bring it out again if invited. I just hate having it at a show where people can rub up against new paint.

I just like having it.

Sure trumps the "barn find display" cars that were at Carlisle this year.
They were only dirty and neglected, but did not have a back hoe run over them, then drop the bucket!
Your car is very, very special!
Especially to the ZR-1 crowd.

I remember them having a blue prototype at Carlisle in 89. I remeber drooling over it and when we were leaving the fairgrounds it pulled out and front of us and did a really impressive burnout. I wonder how many prototypes were in blue. It was flat dash car and 88/89 wheels just like yours. I may even have an old picture of it somewhere.

For those of you who are familiar with the graveyard cars story this guy was the moneyman until he lost his job at the cape low those many years ago. The car he is talking about is the Mike Yeager 89 pilot car that still does not run. In reality he is one of those who made rescueing this and those cars possible.

I have to say Vette Daddy you sure do have skills to put that back together, well done sir.
I don't live to far from where all the testing of the KOH cars were done i am even aware of someone who worked on the suspension testing and on ocassion was allowed to drive on the public roads in East Anglia UK. The white one comes to mind in the picture at a friends near Wisbech.
