WEC and Le Mans entry lists were released.
In WEC, Labre was trying to move to GTE-Pro and possibly field 2 Corvettes (one in GTE-PRO and one in GTE-AM). Rumors were they were trying to get more factory support, and it appears that didn't come through, and they are not running a full season car in either class. No full-season WEC Corvette this year. Le Mans GTE-PRO will have 4 Fords, 3 Ferraris, 2 Corvettes, 2 Porsches, and 2 Astons. Labre does have a Corvette in GTE-AM for Le Mans. AAI who also had a GTE-AM car at Le Mans this year is not listed. GTE-AM will have 8 Ferraris, 4 Porsches, 3 Astons, and 1 Corvette. |
24H Le Mans Entry List Released
By John Dagys Updated: February 2, 2017 Photo: Vision Sport Agency The ACO has revealed the list of 60 entries for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, again featuring a maximum capacity grid for the French endurance classic, including 28 full-season WEC entrants. As expected, the LMP1 class features only six cars, following the withdrawal of Audi, Rebellion Racing’s move to LMP2 and Toyota Gazoo Racing’s expansion to a three-car program. The new-look LMP2 category features the largest field, with 25 entries, with the majority being Oreca 07s and Ligier JS P217s, although joined by three Dallara P217s and a lone Riley Mk. 30 entered by Keating Motorsports. A total of 13 cars are entered in GTE-Pro, in a near-identical list to last year’s field, comprised of factory or works-supported entries from Ford, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Corvette and Porsche. The GTE-Am class, meanwhile, sees 16 total entries, including five from the WEC and the debut of the Ferrari 488 GTE into the category. Only two reserve entries have been nominated, one in LMP2 for RLR M Sport (Ligier JS P217) and an additional Proton Competition Porsche in GTE-Am. While the ACO in the past have confirmed a full list of ten reserves, sources have indicated to Sportscar365 that only 64 entry requests were submitted for this year’s race. “Endurance is in very good health and the 2017 season looks full of promise,” said ACO President Pierre Fillon. “The on-track spectacle will be absolutely fantastic with duels among top-class drivers and all-out rivalry between the competitors. All the ingredients that make up the DNA of endurance have been combined for 2017. “The field for the Le Mans 24 Hours is particularly rich with 16 nationalities from the four corners of the world and a host of teams, most of which race in our continental series in Europe, the United States and Asia thanks to the Asian Le Mans Series, which has really taken off. “It is all proof of the success of the endurance pyramid so dear to the ACO.” Mark Webber, meanwhile, has been named Grand Marshal for Le Mans, following in the footsteps of Alex Wurz, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish, who have all retired from professional racing. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is set for June 17-18. Here is info on other races too:
IMSA and FOX Sports have announced additional television coverage and schedule updates for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and also released the 2017 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge television schedule. In addition, IMSA and FOX Sports announced that the IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda will have FS2 television coverage throughout the 2017 season. “Our partnership with FOX Sports continues to pay dividends,” said IMSA Vice President, Marketing, David Pettit. “Between the additional improvements we’ve made to the WeatherTech Championship television schedule, the continuation of a strong FS1 package for the Continental Tire Challenge and the introduction of FS2 coverage for IMSA Prototype Challenge Presented by Mazda, we head into the 2017 season in an extremely strong position from a domestic television perspective.” Three upcoming WeatherTech Championship races have been updated from the original broadcast schedule previously released in December. The Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida on March 18 will receive an additional 90 minutes of live FS1 coverage, with the race broadcast now beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET and continuing through the race’s conclusion with post-race coverage until 11 p.m. ET. The two-hour, 40-minute Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, meanwhile, moves from a same-day delay to live on FS1 on July 9 at 12 p.m. ET. In addition to WeatherTech Championship television schedule updates, IMSA also unveiled the 10-race FS1 broadcast schedule for the Continental Tire Challenge. Each race will be tape-delayed on FS1 throughout the season, in addition to live streaming of all races on IMSA.com. Continental Tire Challenge television coverage on FS1 begins this Sunday, Feb. 12 with the telecast of the BMW Endurance Challenge held at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, Jan. 27. Additionally, FS2 television coverage for the IMSA Prototype Challenge series, which is set to debut on March 16-17 at Sebring , will be introduced this season. This series typically features two, 45-minute sprint races per event weekend. Prototype Challenge television coverage will be produced by NASCAR Productions and will follow a similar format to IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama telecasts, which feature highlights of the first race followed by expanded coverage of the second race at each event. Excellent write up....I once questioned the balance of power at Road America to some of the officials...I asked this..If you build a better mouse trap...why take something away from the folks that build it and give a advantage to the guys that build a lesser one...it's like giving candy to a kid that does have as good of a job in school...while he smiles at the kid that excelled and was given the same candy...wasn't there once a thing in racing called dominance...isn't that the reason for other manufacturers to step up to the plate and build a better race car?....Just saying

Press Release:
Chevrolet, Sebring International Raceway Extend Marketing Partnership Chevrolet continues as Official Vehicle of Sebring DETROIT (March 13, 2017) – Chevrolet and Sebring International Raceway confirmed today an extension of their marketing partnership as the two groups head into the 65th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida. “It’s a pleasure for Chevrolet to continue our relationship with Sebring International Raceway,” said Michael Stouffer, Chevrolet Marketing Motorsports Manager. “This partnership allows us to showcase Chevrolet and the Corvette brand on one of the biggest stages in global sports car racing. Sebring is steeped in tradition, and we are proud to play a significant role in the race’s history with a number of victories and important moments.” Chevrolet continues to serve as the Official Vehicle of Sebring – one of multiple, mutual benefits for both sides. Chevrolet also is displayed prominently around the track with high-visibility signage including the famed Turn One walkover bridge along with additional significant activations at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Sebring International Raceway originated from a WWII B-17 training base known as Hendricks Field. Long Beach BoP is out.
Summary for GTLM: More boost for Ferrari and BMW. Less power and a little more weight for BMW and some fuleing changes to coincide. No changes to the Ford and Corvette. Not sure the Ferrari changes were the best idea, but all else seems ok. For two side notes. 1 - They've specified gearing for the Caddy DPis. I don't like going down this road, but at a track like Long Beach, I guess I get why they did it. Prefer they left well enough alone, some cars are just going to be better at some tracks than others. 2 - BMW is the lightest GTLM car, but has way more fuel capacity than everyone else, and was given more to go along with the boost increase. That thing really must be a brick. |
