heater fan blower motor - 1971

My heater fan does not work on high but it works in the other settings. I substituted my relay from my 76 - but it did the same thing. Do you think it is a bad switch or is there anything else I can test? It really does not put out much air on these lower settings.

Check the high blow fuse.

JasonC3 11-12-2010 10:31 AM

Roger,

This certainly sounds logical but I don't recall seeing a "high blow" fuse in the panel. I will have anothoer look, though. Is it in the panel near the brake pedal, or in-line somewhere, or in another location? Thanks.

Hidden fuse.

The fan high speed fuse is in line and under the drivers fender a little foward of the master cylinder.

Thanks much! That was it. The fuse was OK but the fuse holder was not very good. I cleaned it up and it works but I will have to make a more permanent fix.

If the fuse holder spring is good and the contacts are clean, you already made the 'permanent fix'. The fuse is there for a reason; don't try to 'improve' on it.

One of the prongs is worn down so the spring wants to push the cap to the side. I just planned to change the fuse holder.

Does the fuse live in the same place on a 75, I have the same problem but have not found the fuse?

That's where it is on my '72. There are several red wires connected to the horn relay, which is mounted on the inner fender well right next to the master cylinder. One of the thick (10-gauge) red wires has a fuse holder six inches from the connection to the horn relay. The other side of the fuse holder is a 12-gauge orange wire.
