L88 High Rise hoods...for 78 Vette VANACOR CORVETTE IS NO LONGER?!?
Alright guys...I've expired all options here. The title says it all but I'm looking for the L-88 High rise hood. Not the factory height, but the one that's about 1.5-1.75 higher than the factory hood. Also, this would have to be the hood for the 77-82 Corvette's because obviously the 68-76's are different. I do remember and have researched a company called Vanacor Corvette Parts out of LA, but heard that the owners son killed the owner(his dad), then I heard the wife took over the business. Later I heard that the business didn't make it through Hurricane Katrina. If you go to their website www.vanacorcorvette.com, it takes you to some Chinese site about skin lotions and ointments??? Anyways, has anyone found or know where to get one of these hoods. They did offer this hood for the 77-82 in original and high rise options. I've already checked ACI and they only have the factory height L-88 hood for my application. Or, better yet, does anyone have one of these hoods and willing to sale it? I know, slim chance but hoping to find some answers. Thanks!

Thanks ragvette, but I'm specifically looking for the L-88 with the additional 2 1/4" clearance hood that vanacors molded and sold thats a direct fit on the 78's.

TTT... interested in this as well (but for a 71).
Edit: Apparently their warehouse caught fire and they have since been bought out by another company. All of the molds post 1968 were destroyed in the fire. They are also supposed to be making more molds and should have them up and ready right about now. You can call this number to reach them 1-800-225-6508. On a side note they have moved everything to Biloxi, Mississippi. See http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...ng-status.html |
Hey majic...I called the 1-800-225-6508 number. They didnt answer as Vanacors, I'm not sure what the guy said...he had mush mouth syndrone, haha. Anyways, I told him I was looking for Vanacors and he said their building caught on fire. So as everyone else has said, that is correct. I advised him that I was looking for some parts that they use to make and he said they have absolutely nothing! I asked him if they will ever be carrying the parts Vanacors use to carry ever again and he said its going to take about 8 months from now before they have all the molds done. I referred to the hoods in particular and he said that all the molds should be done in about 8 months so...who knows what they did for the last 6 months(since they were suppose to be up and running in 6 months back in April)? lol...So, I guess we all have to wait it out or I have to try to find someone who's got one for sale. Unfortunately, I think I've only seen 2 L-88 extra high rise hoods to begin with so...odds arent too great.

Hi ASC,
Try RoadRaceVette on the C-3 forum. I believe he made a mold for a L-88 style hood. I don't know how high or long it is. Worth a try? Regards, Alan |

Vanacors Corvette Parts
Vanacor's Corvette Parts is coming back. Michael and Jackie Vanacor the son and Daughter-in-law of the late Bryan Vanacor, is now the owner of Vanacor's Corvette Parts. We will be fully up and operational within a few months. If interested in ordering from us please call 985/210-3762(Michael), 504/710-8288 (Jackie ) or email us at j_vanacor@yahoo.com. Vanacor's Corvette Parts is not affiliated with ANYONE in Mississippi, we are only located in Des Allemands, LA. The number 1-800-225-6508 is not Vanacor's and they do not have any of our molds or parts. We did experience a fire, it was a minor set back. But we are the true "Vanacor's Corvette Parts" and we are coming back. May Bryan Vanacor's Dream stay alive. |
That's great!

Please pass the word around about Vanacor's coming back and that we are NOT the ones in mississippi and they do not have any molds
It'll be great to see you folks up and running again. |
???
So who are these guys down in Biloxi, Mississippi that claim Vanacor's burned up in a fire as well but stated they will be back up and running(in about 6 months now)? I spoke to them myself...how can two different people claim to have the same business? Also, another side note...the telephone # 1-800-225-6508 was the number to Vanacors(in Biloxi). This "real Vanacors" telephone # is something totally different...hmmm??? Who's real and who's a fake? Sounds like one of the two is running a scam, just not sure which...?

Vanacor is in Des Allemands
We are not sure who or why the people in Biloxi, Mississippi are claiming to be us (Vanacor's), we are tring to get find out though. We did experience a fire on 12-31-08, but we were not destroyed, we loss a few molds and parts and have been spending the last year sorting out what was lost. Bryan and Diane Vanacor were the oringinal owners, now Michael and Jackie (ourselves) have taken over Vanacor's, we are still located at 17272 Hwy 90 in Des Allemands, because the building was not destroyed. Whoever is in Mississippi has our old toll free number (1-800-225-6508). They are possing as Vanacor's but they are not us. We are currently using business cellphones untill we are completely up and running. Vanacor was never sold to anyone outside the family.
|
So do you guys still have the hood molds? Whoever I talked to said everything post 68 was destroyed. If you still do have them, what kind of time frame are we looking at before you guys are back up and available to take orders? Do you guys have any catalogs or is website ordering available? Sorry for all the questions but just excited to hear the great news...!
|
Did you try the standard catelog websites????
|
Yea, what I'm looking for is only found at Vanacors...All those companies offer the L-88 hood for 78-82 Corvettes but not the 4" high rise L-88. Thanks for trying though...

Well, I don't have an 8"x10" glossy, I do have pictures that will get me banned on here. I'll check out the rear end when I get home and let you know. Dannyman has met her.

Just a heads up...be prepared to put some body work into the 4" high rise. I just got mine done and it was pretty bad. Mine required quite a bit of shaving at the bottom and bondo to fill in at the top...But nontheless, it does look bad a$$ on the car! Good luck... |
High rise, L-88 style, lightweight hood
Here's another place you might try.
They had good products about 30 years ago when I did my last '69. http://www.carhoods.com Locke McCormick Jacksonville, FL |
