1999 C5 Corvette Turn Signal and Dash Lights Problem

I have been trying to find an answer to this question for a while now.

My left turn signal (rear) light does not flash when turned on. The system acts like there is a bulb out and flashes fast but I have checked all the bulbs they are fine. The hazard lights make the tail lights flash as well. When the turn signal is on and I am braking the tail light does not light up at all. The problem used to be intermittent and would only happen sometimes but now it always happens.

My second problem (which may be related) is the interior dash lights do not light up when you manually turn on the interior / head lights. The lights do however turn on when the twilight option is on and it is dark enough that the system turns on the head lights.

What could be the cause of these issues?

Any advice would be of great help!

-Thanks

Do you have Euro tail lights?

No they are the standard tail lights that come with the C5.

I have heard some people say that if you hit the dash near the hazard lights that it might fix the problem but I tried this and it did not work. I do not think it is the hazard light switch.

I do not know what else I can try to do. I was thinking it could possibly be a bad turn signal lever but I don't want to go through the hassle of replacing it if there is a more common problem that may be causing these issues.

I'd bet the first problem is the signal switch in the column.

The individual signal wire runs do not go through the hazard. The hazard switch is just the flasher for the signals. If you have lost signals on one corner it can not be the hazard switch.

The second problem is likely the headlight switch. That seems the most likely since the twilight option bypasses the headlight switch.

:iagree: Very plausible and........coincidentaly enough..........all those functions are in one place. The (so-called) multi-function switch or headlight switch. Senor Curlee should have a nice sticky on the care and feeding of that little puppy. :D

Yeah, I tend to agree also with the headlamp switch. They've got a serious failure history

So this post Here would be the best guide to follow?

Thanks for the replies!

Very VERY likely the Multi function switch. Order the part online for 140-150 and do the labor urself. GM gets 800 for parts and labor. If your in Central FL ill help you. Its a little tricky.

Im noticing my flashers are begining to develop a intermint problem sometimes working and sometimes not. I can push the flasher button and the blinder starts to work again.

Will your part fix my problem? Im in Tampa

Where is the multifunction switch located?

Its the turn signal stalk. Its called multi function because it does more than just the turn signals. Its not a bad job to replace, just a little PIA.

I don't think so, do some searches on the hazard switch. I haven't had the issue, but it is different.

Nope, that is likely the hazard switch going bad. Look for the DIY flasher bypass in the Ultimate DIY sticky post.
