Where to buy Cast Blast ?
 

I have no clue but my pumpkin is almost ready to paint.
What if any primer/rustproofer outta be painted under it?

If you are wanting to paint it, I often times apply a coat of etch primer on the cast iron and then apply several LIGHT coats of the cast blast paint. I use SEYMOUR cast blast but I am not at work so I can't get you their phone number off of the can so you can call and see if there is a distributor in your area that carries it. The etch primer can be from basically anybody, SEM, NAPA etc. Remeber that etch primer is NOT DESIGNED to be applied on in a heavy thick coat. The acids bite into the metal and provide a good foundation for the cast blast to stick to. Seymour has two types, original cast blast and high temp cast blast.

This is also depending on the amount of "flash rust" that your clean cast iron has on it and how long you want the paint to stick IF you paint over the "flash rust". Trailer queen or driver? Last for a while or FOREVER?

I'm doing a couple of diff's today. I have them apart. Wash,rinse, dry blast to iron,etch with metal ready,POR15 base coat and seymour cast blast top coat. Takes all day. Looks great and is durable, the cast blast may sratch off but the POR15 is on there. You can buy seymour paint direct or off ebay, local parts stores as well.
I use the high temp on boxes then bake it for 2 hours @ 400*F.

Seymour Cast Blast is a high-temp paint made to be used on exhaust manifolds. You can put it on other things, but it is meant to be cured by baking it while in use on the headers. If you just want to 'paint the pumpkin', use another kind of cast-iron colored paint. VHT paint is capable of handling engine heat, but it does not require 'hot' curing...and it does come in cast-iron color. That or POR would be good choices as paints that would stand up under heat and road type environments. I've used Seymour on my stock exhaust manifolds and it is fantastic...but I wouldn't use it on other stuff if I couldn't bake it for curing.

Thats news to me. I have been using both types of Seymour cast blast paints and even the original cast blast I have never baked and never had a problem with it.. The high temp does work great for the manifolds, but the pumpkin does not get that hot. The other option that I have used is an alkyd enamel paint, and it sticks like no tomorrow.
