BBC Aluminum vs Iron Head Question
 

Just curious on the average what is the wieght savings between a set of BBC aluminum heads vs a set of BBC iron heads? While I have the 509 out of my 69 I was thinking about replacing the cast iron Merlin II rectangle port heads with a set of Merlin III aluminum heads. Just was wondering how much wieght that would knock off the front end?

Fully assembled iron 308 rectangle port, 70 lbs X 2 = 140
Fully assembled 308 pro 1 aluminum, 29 lbs X 2 = 58 lbs


This is just looking at what dart shows on there web site as weight
for there heads.

About 75.

actually you will save 70 lbs off the front end....fully dressed from iron to aluminum.

And if you're buying heads....I'd pick a better set. You can easily beat the Merlin's these days.

look at it this way. i replaced the iron heads with al on my 454.
i had to get help lifting them up off of the car.
the al ones i could lift onto the block with one hand
