for 1000+ I'd suggest a dart block like montey's....its pretty much the only block solid enough. I guess the motown block could be a close 2nd.

I'm sure people have done it with a production block, but I don't think it would be the best way to go. A bowtie block might be a good option, they aren't rated for it from GM, but neither is the Rocket block - and that's what Meaney is using. You can usually pick up a bowtie (non-cnc) for around $650. They come with splayed steel 4-bolt mains. You could also call around to the various used racing parts places and see if they have any used Dart or Rocket blocks. Typically they'll just need to be cleaned up and overbored to the next sie, but you can get them for a good deal.

That would depend on your setup. I know I've seen your posts in the TT threads, and if you are making this power with turbos then your answer would be yes, but you would need a 0010 2 bolt block converted to splayed 4 bolt setup. Second your tuning would have to be on the money, Gen VII or SpeedPro unit. If you had and pre detenation that block would be history. I would go with a little M by Dart or a Motown block.

Using a stock Chevy block and all stock internals, David Vizard made 1027 hp and 950 ft/lbs. before cracking the block in the lifter valley! Of course he was using lots of spray>

You can get your block cryoed in decatur, a complete motor is like 600, I'm not sure if a short block or just a block would be cheaper. It might not be worth it if you can get something aftermarket for what you spent getting it cryoed.
Hey Monty, do they make bowtie's with 4.100"+ bores for 650?
