try the DR if you smoke them go to slicks...and get ready to order trans/rear parts

NandoZ06 02-28-2009 12:04 PM

What! Rear end parts.:willy:..I heard these rear ends are rated up to 900ft.lbs of torque..i am bout 770ft.lbs..

I would go with a set of MT ET Streets

Brian@RPT 03-01-2009 10:38 AM

The MT ET Street Drag Radials works really well and are a very soft compound tire.

NandoZ06 03-01-2009 03:12 PM

What about wheel size on those MT's Street DRs? 16 or 17s?

SETc6 03-01-2009 05:48 PM

they need to make MT for 19's i love the new Street drag radial II

17" MT Et Street radials are great on C5 Zo6 rims...they look a little thin on the car but hook like a mofo. You can't put the wheel weights on the outside 1/2 of the barrel or they will hit the brake calipers.

Or go with 18" MT ET Street Radials, they are wider at 315/s and look better...

However, the short (25") 17 radials will give you a nice gearing advantage to get you out of the hole faster.

Can you explain to me how DR' work as they get worn down? I always
thought they got better so far as hooking as they wear down to the point of near slick. However, I have noticed for awhile that I have a case of my auto 1-2 shift spinning tires that I know is costing me a bit of time. While my 60' launches are improving as my tires wear, it this because launches dont hit as hard on the rubber as the 1-2 shift?

Did your launches and 60' get better right away with your new MT's?

I think the age of the tires and number of heat cycles affects traction, the older they get and the more burnouts the worse they get, even if they have tread.

I find nothing is better than a fresh set of new dr's. I immediately dropped .2 to .3 when I strapped a set on.

And blew my rear and trans to smithereens! But that was from getting ever more aggressive with my launches and launching hard on an untested track and spinning to a slight wheelhop on my final run. The wheelhop was no worse than other infrequent wheelhops but this one did me in.

tire???

hello, im having a hard time getting my car to hook up. I have 305/30/19 nitto's. I have 430rwhp w/390 gears. I like my 19's but if they can not hook up I need to try some thing new. Could you tell me about it and what you found? thank you

If I go with the 18"s what size rim should I try and would the 345/???/18 fit? Its not a Zo6! I might be able to get some 18x12 nock offs.. Thanks for your help.

A mod should move this thread to the FI/Nitrous area.

The new Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial II in the 345/18 (Part number 3788R) size is what you need. This will cure ALL of your traction issues at 700 RWHP.

Edward,
as soon as the set i picked up 305/45/18 are worn out, the 345/18 are going to be my next purchase, although the 305's help my time by 1sec. but still get a lot of wheel spin in 1st and 2nd. The 345's should help.

blackbird345 05-15-2009 11:43 AM

Can the 345/18 fit on the regular c6 or would you need Z06 rear fenders?

EdwardETraylorIII 05-15-2009 01:51 PM

You'll need the Z06 fenders.

drag radials is better than Street Tires
Slicks are a little better than DR
WEIGHT distribution is worth more than Either
Shocks have to allow some front end lift, and be dampened when falling
C5 750 HP TWIN TURBO
GET A DTE BRACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I BROKE THE FLEXPLATE, BUT NO TRANNY OR REAREND YET
Of course it will happen sometime later!!!

jmudreamvette 12-22-2009 05:01 PM

Just went to the drags this last Sunday, My friend has a STS twin turbo on his Z. 725 RWHP with the new MT ET STREET 345's / 18. His first run he spun bad. I told him to do a good burn out, really heat them up. The second run he really hooked up, That was coming out at 4000 RPM. Ran a 10.97 Last run he was at 4600 RPM and ran a 10.71! They DO hook up if you heat u'm up:thumbs:
