EBCM "pump on" problem
 

I plan to send the EBCM from my 2001 Vette coupe to Brandon at ABS fixer. On the EBCM repair form, the question is asked whether the module is experiencing the "pump on" problem.

How do I know whether the EBCM is experiencing the "pump on" problem?

Taking a guess here is that he's asking if it works at all or not? I'm guessing you got a code stating a problem. While its in the car, a cheater's way of testing it is to deliberately spin the wheels. See if the DIC reports the Traction/Active Handling coming on and listen for the sounds of it running. It will probably sound like clicking.. .I think....and you should feel it in the brake pedal.

I've been getting the C1214 code. I have no reason to believe that there is a problem with the pump in the system, so I guess I'll answer no on the form.

Wouldn't it be easier to just inquire with Brandon?

I tried e-mail, but he did not answer. Maybe I'll give it a second try.

My bad! I e-mailed Brandon at ABSfixer yesterday and he responded this morning by stating the "pump on" problem applies only to GM trucks and SUV's. Problem solved.

I had the C1214 code and the rebuild worked for me.

FACC5, just a suggestion: the ABS motor gets pretty gummed up after years of minimal use. While you have the module separated, why not do a little ABS motor "excercising". Just supply a fused 12 volts to pin #8 on the hydraulic module (the one you didn't remove) and the motor will run.
Do a few 2-3 second bursts, and you should hear the motor begin to loosen up. Then do a few 10 second runs to really clean it up.
I just did this this week, and I could tell the motor was pretty gummed up from lack of use; it started slow but finished fast, with much less current draw.

chaase- I'm very glad to hear that the rebuild worked after getting the C1214 code. Did ABSfixer do the repair? If so, did you get the surge suppression option?

DG- Since I won't be removing the EBCM myself, I'll let my mechanic know about the ABS motor and see if he can "exercise" it as you described.

I did have ABSfixer do the repair and did all the work myself at home in my garage. I didn't see the surge suppression option, so I didn't get it.
