Where is the best place to get a replacement radiator?
What price should I expect to pay as the prices seem to go from $163.00 eBay for a 3 core up to 299.00 at Zip. Anything special need to be done to replace it? Appreciate the help.. |
I have bought a generic after market radiator before that was supposed to fit my car, and it didn't. In fact, it was crap. If you are going to buy a new radiator I suggest you take the plunge and upgrade to an aluminum, and get one from DeWitts here on the forum. Honestly one of the best mods I ever did to my car and it was easily worth every penny. True direct fit drop in installation, and it cools way better than my stock one did and SO much better than the crap one I bought off of Ebay.

Pull out the old one and take it to the rad shop. Why do you need a new one?

When I did my car mt radiator needed attention too, but I thought some of the radiators I looked at were junk so I took the original to the shop and had it rebuilt for 299.00. No fitting issues, and my car always run cool plus I still have the original radiator. My .02 cents.

Would like to upgrade to aluminum but I really want to keep the stock look in the car and it always ran nice and cool since it has the stock motor in it.

It just stated leaking on the bottom driver side and it appears to be the original. Having it re-cored seems to make the most sense.
What is the best procedure for taking it out of the car? Does the hood absolutely need to come off to remove it or will it slide out with the hood on? |
$299.00 seems like a lot for a re-core...Did you have it restored or just re-cored?

DeWitts radiators can be painted to match the stock black before they leave and get shipped to you. Install one of those and no one would know the difference. The radiator can be removed and installed with the hood on the car but it's harder to do. |

Will a 78 Radiator fit an 82 without and modifications to the car or radiator? Is it an exact fit?

Thanks for the reply and information. Are they both automatic transmission cars? The '76 through '82 should be the same with the exception of the transmission fluid tank bungs for the automatic transmissions. |
The 82 is automatic for sure..niot sure about the 1978 yet.
Is there a transmission line going into my 82 radiator? |

Transmission fluid. The lines carry hot transmission fluid from the transmission to the radiator, where there is a tank built into the side of it. The fluid is cooled and returned to the transmission by way of pressure from the transmission pump that sends fluid to the radiator. |
