Z06 Convertible...For Real!!
I dont know about this one... What do you all think??
This isn't a c6 with the body pieces, its a Z... Aren't they sacrificing some sort of support or safety here?? The Z06 Convertible LSR Prototype Genaddi Design Group announces the Z06 Convertible, a Roadster based on the new Corvette Z06. The Z06 Convertible is the next offering in a growing line of Roadster Upgrades by Genaddi Design Group and was on display at the 2007 S.E.M.A. Show in Las Vegas. The “new” Z06 convertible with the Structural Chassis System was unveiled to the press this year outside at the Dupont Registry Booth at SEMA. After the unveiling the car was on display at the Dupont booth, lifted high enough to see the installed Structural Chassis System on our working prototype. LSR Roadster The idea of the Corvette Z06 as a convertible is not new, but GDG's version of it is. GDG has answered the call of automotive enthusiasts who love the performance of the Corvette Z06 but desire an open top car, an exotic roadster that Chevrolet has confirmed will not be offered by them. The aluminum chassis of the Z06 relies on the triangulated structure of the top to keep it perfectly in alignment under stress of performance driving. The “new” Genaddi Design Group Structural Chassis System doubles the stock torsional rigidity of the car making the handling far superior because of the rigidity of the chassis. Now you can have America’s Supercar, the Z06 Corvette, as a power top convertible. http://i26.tinypic.com/27ywufr.jpg http://i29.tinypic.com/2dqk86p.jpg:ack: :ack: |
It looks great, IMO. If it's claim of safety and performance is accurate, they'll probably sell alot of um.

it's an aftermarket conversion of a Z06.....it has nothing to do with GM....and it's a very expensive....

i saw this car at b-j this january and talked to these guys. here is the poop on this. you supply the car and for $25,000 they will convert your Z06 to a vert with GM parts. or, if you would like to "try this at home" they will sell you the key to what makes this work...their bottom plate that holds the car together (if i remember its carbon fiber) for $11,000. this is a re-post. :thumbs:

I was at the Lone Star Classic in Texas this weekend and saw two C6 ZO6 convertibles from Oklahoma Father and Son.
Story is that the bought 2 ZO6's and 2 Convertibles... swaped body panels, engine, etc from ZO6 to vert... results were two awesome ZO6 verts... here is the Black one http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_4541.jpg http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_4542.jpg http://i118.photobucket.com/albums/o...y/IMG_4543.jpg |

You might want to look at this months Corvette Fever. They are the cover story in it. They bought two verts and ordered the body panels for them.

The part this company came up with is a pretty trick under car bracing system made out of honeycombed carbon fiber stuff. If you search you can find a picture of it. They used it when they made the Ford GT roadster concept too. |

[/IMG] they swap the frame also?....not a true Z....the conversion above starts and ends as a Z....these cars are convertibles that look like Z's....the bottom line is there is no such thing as a "true" Chevrolet Z06 convertible.... |

I had my beer goggles on and did not get to inspect it closely... :cool:
Just what I heard. |
This is a repost - these folks made a conversion setup to turn a Z06 into a vert, but you have to supply the car and a check for north of $25k for them to do it. The bottom is held together by some kind of carbon fiber panel that bolts onto the frame. This is what keeps the car from twisting itself apart. Looks wise, it's nice. Performance-wise, it's a p.o.s. - the aluminum frame of the Z06 ONLY works when there is a roof panel in place. There is a reason why GM didn't make a vert Z06 and why the C6 vert uses the STEEL frame.
Those OK cars in the pics are just widebody conversions, nothing more special than that. |
Thanks for the info. :thumbs:

It looks great. I bet there will be a line of one of those.

If you notice the on that car in the picture the third brake light is a stock C6 not the tall Z06 style.I'm not buying that story, look's like a fat fendered C6.Why would they throw away the better looking Z06 style one and put that on.:bs

In response to the guy who bought a C6 vert and swapped body panels and dropped a Z06 engine into it;
If you want to do that I have no problem with it, hell I think a vert with a wide body kit looks pretty :cool: But...........Don't be putting Z06 badges on the Fu#*ing fenders! :nono: That is bush league IMO :bs |
