Why are Corvettes so low to the ground???

Hey guys: I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and he said to me, "Why are Corvettes so low to the ground?" I said are you serious?? He couldn't understand it. I said because it's a real sports car!! He didn't like the fact that they were so low, otherwise he would buy one. I said well, then buy a Lincoln or a Buick or something!! Just had to get that off my chest!! Thanks for listening.

So everyone can laugh at the fat guy tryin to pick his big ol' self up off the ground.

PewtVette 05-19-2008 10:18 PM

I always thought it was for a lower center of gravity which contributes to better handling. You know, so we can make quick turns around hard corners without reducing speed. Did ya tell him that?

Choreo 05-19-2008 11:29 PM

Because they would look really silly with a 24" hinged air dam in front dragging the ground.

DefenderC5 05-20-2008 12:10 AM

These are the same people that ask, "why do you need a car that fast anyway?"

That sounds like a 'girl' question.
Your friend definately should not own a Vette, with questions like that.
Perhaps a Gremlin or Pacer.

What?

The NNIAL8R 05-20-2008 10:45 AM

Two reasons.....Lower center of gravity for improved handling and cornering........Keep air (turbulence) from under the car at high speed which can result in instability..

apparently it's beyond his comprenchin.

"Why are Corvettes so low to the ground... I'd buy one if they weren't"

sounds like "I can't own a Corvette" excuse #9:

I foolishly had too many children - too early in life, and can't afford/justify a Corvette. But I'm gonna cover-my-azz by making up this lame excuse... because the truth hurts."

Ha ha. It doesn't have an airdam. It was removed right after these pictures were taken.

I'm sure there are threads about it elsewhere, but does that affect cooling dramatically on a more or less stock car?

No. I just cut holes in the fog light shrouds. Funnels air right to the Blackwing (or factory airbox, if that's what you have).
