First thing you need is the right LS2.
There are some with 28X(??) reluctor wheels, yet the C6's used 52X(??) reluctor wheels. LS2's from GTO's, CTS-V, etc would be fine. If buying a crate motor, make sure you get the right p/n. **not sure of the exact reluctor numbers.....also I think 05 C6's have the older engine? |
07 c6 motor from wreck
its from a 07 c6 wreck. ill have the ecm from it, and wiring.

Get an LS6 or 7 why spend all that money and limit yourself to the LS2

The LS1 and LS2, at a MECHANICAL level, are VERY similar. Both are V8's. both use a single camshaft to drive the valvetrain .... both are fuel injected, electronic ignition, electronically controlled (OBD2) engines. BUT, it is on the electronic side where they differ ..... The LS1 was first sold in 1996 .... so think about it ... the computer that controls your engine dates back to about 1994 to maybe 1995. Are you still running any computers in your house that are 13 years old ?????? Even worse, your C5 computers use a network protocol that is kinda like "dial-up" ....REALLY slow. The C6 computers use a new network called CAN (Controller Area Network) .... but that means you can't install a C6 computer in your C5. So .... bottom line (and interesting that it ends up being this easy) if you take an LS2 engine and change the camshaft reluctor wheel to a C5 wheel, and use a couple of harnesses provided by 3rd party vendors to connect the LS2 Throttle Body to the LS1 wiring system ... your current PCM can control the newer LS2 engine ..... this is a "doable" upgrade. |

Why not change the reluctor wheel, and use the LS6 intake and throttle body? Then the only other change would be the knock sensor wire extension. Unless he's making other changes the LS6 intake flows way better than the LS2 and a ported TB although smaller than the LS2 unit will flow better with the LS6 intake as a pair. The other benefit is that it will look "stock" C5 if the guy wants to be stealth.
I gotta say that I'd put a cam in the thing while he's in there changing the reluctor wheel as well. |
