i did some research and found some uv leds... so in theory it could be done... may look into this...

I ordered the super white lights which is a different color than the warm incandescent bulbs they replaced. This color of light reacts differently with the filters for each of the indicators and projects a different color than before. The red lights are almost fushcia now. The yellow lights are now a fluorescent, almost neon yellow. The greens have gone a little more toward teal. The blues, however, for high beam and MPH/KMH indicators are beautiful. The increased light intensity has caused some spillover into the 1-4 shift and MIL indicators. They're not lit, they're just receiving a slight glow from the nearby MPH indicator. My suggestion: Either stick with incandescent or get warm white LED's to avoid the weird discoloration of your indicators. I may or may not be considering swapping for warm white, but I'm also lazy and don't feel like pulling the cluster back out just for some bulbs. As for the speaker, that's your ignition/door chime. For the rest of the interior, i used a warm white LEDs. Really like the look with the exception of the dimmer and hud dimmer switches. The colour shows up quite different and looks a bit off. Also the LED on the active handling button doesnt show through very well and is noticably duller than the rest. Also remember you loose the dimming feature with LEDs. Not the end of the world, but something to keep in mind. Another point to keep in mind is the stock bulbs in the DIC buttons and door buttons have a blue plastic film around them, giving the almost blue look. These seem to be discontinued and cant be found anywhere. So when they finally blow (and they will) you'l have to either do LED mod, or buy the normal bulbs which will make the DIC buttons look much more yellow then they did from the factory. I tried all the types of bulbs and LEDS I could find, and decided to settle on a warm white LED colour. |

I believe you have to use warm white LEDs in the HVAC unit if you want white lights. Cool white LEDs come out looking blueish.

I think I might switch them out to ice blue or blue leds to get a more consistant colour match. Something to keep in mind for anyone looking at doing this yourself. |
If anyone knows where to get the t3 and t4 'ice blue' incandescent bulbs let me know! cant find a part number anywhere.

The amber lights on the head and radio are already LEDs.

We just change them out with 3mm discreet leds. We use 3mm blue for the a/c, green for the cold air and red for the defrost. No need for resistors since they are already leds.

Before I get into tearing the radio apart, I wanted to see if I could do anything to get the fog light/trunk switch a little brighter. It was just too dim compared to everything else.
First, I bought a spare switch because taking one apart involves cutting it open along the glued seam. Having a spare always makes me feel better about ripping things apart. :willy: After getting it apart, it's obvious why the lighting is so dim. The light has to go into the buttons from an angle and also has to make it through the half inch thick silicone rubber they're made out of. I decided my best bet was to handle it just like the traction control button and embed the LED's into the rubber of the button. I used two Oznium wedge LED's that I removed from their bases. Attachment 48178759 Attachment 48178760 A little extra wire soldered onto the leads, some heat shrink tubing to protect against shorting, and then solder the wires to the appropriate pad on the back of the circuit board (top is + if I remember right). Are their any how tos of replacing the 12 LEDs in the dimming rear view mirror? I found some links but they we're old and broken.
Is it as simple as removing the mirror from the vehicle, carefully popping the mirror open to gain access to the circuit boards and then removing old LEDs and soldering in the new ones? |
C5 radio LEDs
Doing a full interior LED upgrade. I’ve got everything done but my radio. I installed about half the LEDs then plugged in the radio to test them, they worked, went back in, installed the rest of the LEDs and now none of them work. Radio works, screen works. No LED light. Has anyone encountered and solved this? I really don’t want to re install all of the stock bulbs. Thanks I’m advance!
