Best way to ship a hood
 

Hello
I need to ship my stock hood to my brotherr in Buffalo NY form Houston TX . What is the best way to accomplish this?? Any reccomendations would be helpfull

try greyhound (the bus)

I shipped one by Greyhound also. Much cheaper just may take a little longer to get there. Pack it up real good. I used foam pipe insulation along the edges. Worked great. Went from NY to CA and took 7 days.

Thanks for the sugestion Great Idea!! However I am having a difficult time finding a box that large, I went to UPS to purchase 1 and they did not have 1 that large. Can any one give me a lead as where I can purchase a box Maybe UHall? No clue I also went to some furniture stores but they have box compactors that they use to get rid of thier boxes

Maybe need to go to Home depot and builsd a frame and plywood

Go to a high volume body shop and pick up a hood box, find someone that just had an appliance delivered and get all the styrofoam from that and wrap thr crap out of all the edges. Check into Fed Ex ground for great service.

A friend just shipped a hood from Northern KY to Washington DC via Fed-X Freight, (don't confuse this with Fed-x ground, or express as they have different terminals and appear to be run as seperate companies). I do not know the cost, but he commented how cheap it was and said it was delivered the next day.

Ask your local Chevy Parts Store (or any Dealership or Auto Body repair shop) to save one for you. They usually have collision replacement hoods shipped in large flat cardboard boxes and are usually more than happy to give it to you.

I used a bike frame box (pinarello) to ship a 58 hood it fit perfect. I sent this via greyhound also. Surprisingly it was hastle free and a fair price

I shipped a C-6 top FED-X. like $70 some $ insured. .Fla. to Jersey , Party had it in4 days.

A forum member shipped a big block '69 hood to me from San Fran to Illinois for $58 in 4 days by Greyhound. Great deal.

He didnt even need a box. He went to Lowes or Menards or a place like that, got a lot of packing and foam for the edges and bought large pieces of hard cardboard and essentially bent the cardboard around the hood, making a "custom" box. Taped the heck out of it and it shipped perfectly. They key was taking time in packaging.

The only issue was , I asked for $900 insurance and they only gave $300. Not sure if that was a problem or what their limits are.

We toss out tons of boxes daily and the hood boxes have the corner and edge foam or some kind protection to support the hood.

You could go to Menards etc and get to pieces of Polystyrene (sp) use some pieces on the side for support and sandwich it.

Greyhound is good,but I have my new 65/66,and 67 BB hoods triple boxed,and they go UPS.I ship all over the US from central Illinois,and I have never paid more than 118.00,and just sent one UPS to Canada for 144.00.:thumbs:

Right, Bill is where I am in Texas. I am interested in buying his hood and not shipping it to his brother.
