Best Syn. Oil for Supercharged Motors
What is the Best oil for high horsepower supercharged motors?
Thanks:thumbs: |
I'm running twins and switched to Royal Purple 20/50. My motor hated it, went back to Mobil 15/50, all is well in OZ now. ;)

Where can I buy 15/50? Looked all over the net. |
Royal Purple 10w30. Dont need the 5w-30 unless you drive in subzero weather.
Even better is Royal Purple's racing oil. It did better than all oils tested, even Redling. |

I read the Mobil 1 15/50 is for supercharged motors. Thanks:thumbs: Where can I buy 15/50? Looked all over the net. |
I stay away from the Mobile One-it just doesn't seem the same since they reformulated it. Honestly I use what is cheapest or on sale in a 10w30 grade-as I change it out as soon as I see the colour turn from gold to dark. The FI cars with the breathers, rich tunes and meth tend to be hard on oils-changing the oil often is just cheap insurance!
 |
Have you Guys ever used or know of anyone who's used Amsoil?

10W 30 here. Works like a charm

What brand do you use Nouman? :bigears |
I run 15w50 mobil 1 in the vettes (both the NA 427 road racer and the forged 346 paxton car) i bought out the local straus auto when they had 5 qt jugs on clearance for 15 bucks. The girl looked at me like I was nuts when I walked up with about 15-20 jugs. She said, this is for private people not shops, I said honey I'm not a shop I'm worse I'm a racer...Her face when I started loading it all into the vette was priceless.
run 5w30 mobil 1 in the supercharged 07 suburban tow rig too. I've been told 5 or 10w30 on stock motors, and with all the built motors from ECS Ive been told dino on break-in and synthetic 15w50 after. The guys never seemed particular on what went in it. Heck at teh track one time we swapped oil and I think it wound up being half mobil half amsoil. :leaving: but clean mixed oil was better than beat to hell cooked oil. realistically walking into the store I'd go with anything name brand heavy weight and synthetic. any clean oil is better than what was in there. |
I've been using Royal Purple 5w-30 motor oil in the Z06 since I got it. I also send out samples to Blackstone labs on a pretty regular basis. Just changed the oil this past weekend to 5w30 RP full synthetic, sample should be going out this week.
some of you running 15-50 oils, its been so long that I forget what the different numbers mean it terms of viscosity when hot & cold. anyone care to refresh my memory? |
Been running RP 10/30W for 12k now and change atleast every 2k about the time it gets dirty and no issues:cheers: :flag: :flag:

The Mobil 1 15w50 has almost 50% more anti-wear additive than the 5W30.. 1200ppm vs 800ppm. All of the "recommended" weights have to meet new emission standards and have lower PPM of the Zinc Phosphate(anti wear additive) in them...
The active ingredient that you are talking about is phosphorus which is added thru a component called ZDDP. For products that meet the new ILSAC GF-4 specification the phosphorus levels for the oil must be less than 800 ppm phosphorus. The ILSAC level for phosphorus has been reduced to protect the catalytic converter and other emission protection equipment. The engine manufacturers are confident that this level of phosphorus will protect both new and older engines. However, there are Mobil 1 products which have a higher level of phosphorus (phos) and can be used in engines in racing or high performance applications; see the attached table. |

Thanks:thumbs: I personally believe the High Temp High Shear rating of an oil is a good indicator of how the oil will perform in the engine, particularly for those running the car hard. The High Temperature/High Shear Test measures a lubricant’s viscosity under severe high temperature and shear conditions that are similar to severe service applications in an engine. The below HTHS ratings were pulled straight of the corporate websites of the various companies. Amsoil Series 2000 20w50 (API SM) – 5.8 Amsoil Premium Protection 20w50 (API SL) – 5.0 Amsoil Marine Synthetic 10w40 (API SL) – 4.6 Mobil 1 EP 15w50 (API SM) – 4.6 Pennzoil Marine SAE 40 (API SJ) – 4.5 Mobil 1 15w50 (API SM) – 4.5 Amsoil Heavy Duty Diesel 15w40 (CI-4+) – 4.4 Amsoil Premium Protection 10w40 (API SL) – 4.3 Amsoil XL 10w40 (API SM) – 4.3 Pennzoil Truck/SUV 15w40 (CI-4+) – 4.3 Pennzoil Long Life Heavy Duty 15w40 (API SL) – 4.3 Amsoil Premium Diesel 5w40 (CJ-4) – 4.2 Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40 (API SL) – 4.06 FYI, these AMSOIL products all have high levels of ZDDP (about 1265 ppm phosphorus and 1378 ppm zinc): AMSOIL Series 2000 20w50 AMSOIL SAE Synthetic High Performance 20w50 AMSOIL SAE Synthetic Premium Protection 10w40 (I ran this oil in my stock LS6 02 Z06 the last few seasons I raced) |
