For most of us this is only used once or twice. We should keep one going around. I might need it in a few months depending on if my home made rig works or not.

Hey, I could split the $40 with you and then when we are done we can get it going to the next person for $20.
Just a thought.

I borrowed a sling lift to pull my '74 body. The lift ring was too high after factoring in the length of the chain hoist and the 11' gantry I was attaching to. Long story short-buy 4 each 3" ratchet straps. Adjust to length and have something usefull after the job is done.

I like this kind of thinking. What did you use to hook under the body?

Not wanting to ruin this guys thread or sale ($40 is great buy)...but I ran into the same problem with the sling. Even with a 12' tall two-post lift, I didn't have enough room to take out the slack of the sling. The strap brackets (metal tabs for connection) fit perfect behind the rocker moldings (remove them first) and pick the car up from underneath the doors. Now, I did end up using the sling; but I had to use the rafters of me garage, a block & tackle, and the electric winch off the car trailer. After all that trouble, I then realized that I could take the arms of the lift and lift up in the same place as the straps and not even need the straps - which is a much better approach in my opinion; but you have to have a lift to do this. You need to jack up the body from the frame with three (3) 4x4 blocks on either side to allow room for the lift-arms.

You can even see we took the wheels off and set the frame on the ground. Now it would have worked if we would have the motor out, but it's still alot of trouble.

You can see the metal clips of the sling attached at the front and the 4x4's at the rear. With the body spaced this far, set the frame down and insert the lift arms right by the 4x4's and just lift away!

I don't like the straps being so long either but if you shorten the straps putting the ring closer to the body, then you will be pulling inward more on the fiberglass risking cracks. If the straps were shorter then you would need a square frame of some sort just below the ring to hold the straps apart. Maybe something the makers of these straps should consider doing.

How much does the body weigh? I heard 600 lbs?

The straps I used had "J" hooks at the ends that were a better fit then the lift strap. I was concerned about pulling together but with the Tops out the front set went just behind the door post while the rears went over the striker post. Not much to flex at those points. Although I do plan on paint so that wasn't a big concern.

My bigger problem was telling Noland Adams why I didn't need the starps he let me borrow!
