High Mileage C5's

My 98 was totaled in a road rage incident & I am looking at a 2000 w/hi mileage with 2 owners, & serviced by both at same dealer where it was purchased. It is an A4 coupe w/most options. Has been serviced regularly & has clean carfax.
What to watch out for on hi mile vettes? What should I be looking for as far as problems go? I'm on fixed income & lower price would allow me to do some mod's to car to personalize it. Any info will be appreciated.

Below is a link to an interesting thread on the durability of the C5 Corvette. Note the post by Evil-Twin a retired Corvette engineer.

What do you consider high mileage for a Corvette? Sounds like you found a well cared for Corvette.

If they are cared for properly and not abused, they can have a very long life. As already asked, what do you consider high mileage?

Mine had 72k on it when I bought it. It has given me no problems so far other than what I think is a rear axel seal leak (very small). Another way to look at it is any troubles or bugs it may have had are probably fixed!! Good Luck ,..........Enjoy

I have a 2000 coupe a4 with 121K on it and drive it everyday. My problems have been oil pressure sender unit, head light issuses all the time, and key fob/transmitter stuff, wind noise at window, and the road noise that all have. If I wasn't so picky about things I would say that for the last 70K that I have owned it (3yrs) it has done very well.

I have 122K on a 99 M6 Z51. Raced on pretty hard Since 90k by me

Original clutch and slave. Car had no other mechanical issues Ie headlights and etc untill about 3 weeks ago..

My motor Spun a rod bearing #5 Cylinder. LS1's are known for rod knocking and Spun rod bearings If youll research on LS1tech.com

From my research theres several theories, The earlier LS1 oil pumps, and ALL year stock LS1 rod bolts. Im not terribly mad this happened as this has happened to low mileage LS1's in camaros, firebirds gto's etc..

If you can spare the time or cash I definately would upgrade the oil pump and Rodbolts if nothing else.

I found info on a 2000 coupe w/125K, it's the color & color interior I want & the options I would like. I've already run a carfax report & it shows normal maintenance & no reported accidents or bodywork, 2 owners, bought new at a local dealer & serviced there by both owners & it passed emmissions in Nov 2007 & trans was flushed in May 2007. My 98 had 60K when I bought it & never had any probs except for oil sensor, which I did a relocate on. No electrical issues or anything & it had a little over 80K when it was totaled. I have friends that have less than 40K on newer vettes & have already had the gas sending units go out & wheel bearings. So is it just kind of "the luck of the draw"?

Well 125K is up there a bit but again, if the price is right and the maintenance was done correctly and everything still works normally, then you should be good. Price will be a consideration. If its a MM6 then it'll need a clutch if not done already. Look for abnormal tire wear therefore a possible alignment needed. Check the fluids, all of them including the differential. By the way, I'm the one with 305K on mine and still running strong. I do have to run 10W-30 these days instead of the 5W-30, but thats it.

Thanks for the info, the one I'm thinking about is an A4 & has already had trans flushed & radiator & had a 4 wheel align last fall at a dealer & thnx to others for the informative links.

My '00 has 229k and still on the original water pump, starter, a/c, power steering, and front wheel hubs/bearings. Outside of the normal "little" stuff, like batteries and fuel filters, etc. these cars can be bulletproof if maintained. Have always used Mobil 1, changed trans and diff fluid regularly (Redline) and use magnetic plugs on oil/tranny/diff to keep impurities out of the fluids.

120K on my wife's '01...
I consider it just broken in.

We have had a headlight motor issue, oil pressure sensor, dim A/C display, door control module issue.
Any other work has been normal maintenance.. or mods.
I just asked my wife if she wanted a high gas mileage hybrid or even an electric car for summer in city commuting.... her response.... what's wrong with my Vert?
