Z06 vs. ZR1 - Power to Weight Ratio
Z06 vs. ZR1 - Power to Weight Ratio
------------------------------------- Just for fun I did some calculations on how much HP a Z06 needs to have the same power to weight ratio as the ZR1… Stock: ZR1 – 3350 lbs, 620 hp Power to Weight Ratio = 5.40 Z06 – 3130 lbs, 505 hp Power to Weight Ratio = 6.19 ------------------------------------- So, if we mod a Z06 with some Headers, tune, intake, t-stat, ported t-body, we should get about 570 to 580… Depending on the tune and dyno… Cost $4K New Ratio: Z06 – 3130 lbs, 570 hp Power to Weight Ratio = 5.49 Z06 – 3130 lbs, 575 hp Power to Weight Ratio = 5.44 *** Z06 – 3130 lbs, 580 hp *** Power to Weight Ratio = 5.39 MORAL TO THE STORY: Get a Z06 up to 580 hp at the flywheel (not difficult), and you a car that is just as fast, if not faster, than the ZR1; that is naturally aspirated, and you save about 40K in the process… Z06 by far is the meanest car on the road today... IMHO... |

I'm afraid you've made a rather simplistic analysis here.

How about a package like the one I have - 630HP; that's a ratio of 4.96 at a cost of about $10,000.

There is a graph of the ZR1's HP curve over top of the Z06's HP curve and I can tell you that 75hp in the Z06 isn't going to be enough.

3350 is a little conservative. That's what it will weigh completly dry. Add 150lbs of fuel and water for cooling your almost 3500lbs!:ack:
|
Wait til you add headers, CAI and tune to the ZR1. Or better yet, smaller pulley. You can believe the General will leave a lot on the table with these cars. Not to take anything away from the Z06.....it's still the car that others are trying to measure up to.

Point is, the Z with a few bolt-ons is a much better bang-for-the-buck supercar than the ZR1 will be. The comparison between the cars stated in the post, say in a 0-120mph run, I imagine would be very close. JMHO.

It's all relative.
1 Attachment(s)
Since this is for fun, take a C5 Z, only 3030lbs, get an STS or ATI kit for 7k, 6-7psi, 600rwhp for a ratio of 5.05. It's the same suspension just with different calibrations. Plus your total cost would come out 30,000 bucks cheaper than a new C6 Z06. Of course it wouldn't be the total package a new C6 ZO6 is, but then a C6 ZO6 isn't the total package a C6 ZR1 is. Kinda see where I'm going with this? I bet you could take a 71 Duster and put in 600hp and run nines all day with it for 12k and knock another 25k off that C5 Z price. Matter of fact I know you can, I did it!
Attachment 48178644 Of course it leaves a lot to be desired in the 'all around package' area, but hey, it's all for fun right. |

lol.
Nope, I actually had to sell it to get my first vette. I think that a car like that would cause Santa Cruz to implode. I have finally figured out what the deal is here with vehicles. Loud and slow. All Harleys or jacked up 4x4s. And a modified car in Santa Cruz means you put stickers on the back. hehe. btw points for getting the license plate, if I had a nickel for every person who said "two the win", whats that mean?../sigh. And yes I get much hate stares for the LG Pro's and B&B Bullets on my vette here from the granola's. College girls seem to like it though, and I am still young and single. Always a good side.
