X-pipe - What does this actually do?

Looking at going with the Borla Touring exhaust, but they have just the axle back or full catback that includes an x-pipe. I've read some different posts on the x-pipe, and still not sure what it does as far as sound and HP. I'm more concerned with sound; want to hear it, but as everyone says, like to keep the drone to a minimum. Just not sure what the x-pipe is really doing to the exhaust sound, especially for about $300 for the cost.

more effectively equalizes the exhaust pressure and scavenging action of the exhaust pulses compared to the stock h pipe. What does this mean? a little hp gain and a slight reduction in pop, only because it equalizes that pop through both pipes instead of more toward the side producing the sound.

$300? a bit much for the little gain, a used one under $200 would be a go, that's what I did.

Hmmm, i didn't submit this twice????

Thanks, that makes sense. And yeah, the price is a bit much. I just checked Tbyrnes price and its a $400 difference to get the x-pipe with the system!!! For $400, the thing should install itself!

I'd hold off and try to get one slightly used, I'm sure it wont take long. So long as you dont drive in the rain you should be able to drop the pipe without breaking the studs later. You'll still have to drop the pipe to install the rear section, but you should be ok if your mileage isn't too high.

BTW, the Borla Touring exhaust isn't that bad sound wise, but its still pretty heavy.

I put a Borla Stinger CAT Back in my 05 2 years ago. I did not get the "X" pipe cuz I knew that I would eventually go with headers. All headers come with an “X” pipe. The “X” pipe will get you 2-5 RHWP at most. Save your $300.

No Gains, Zero...None over the C6 H-Pipe. Nascars Nextel Cup, Bush and Craftsman Truck series all run Full sized H-pipes just like the C6.

Planning on Borla Sports w/x-pipe for quite a while myself but hadn't pulled the trigger yet. Understood the same thing about the x-pipe . If there's a chance of a little more hp, I want it. Plus, better tone note and less popping. Now that the "extremes" are due out with an "American sound", I'm waiting to hear feedback on those.

It reduces "burble" and "raspiness"

:iagree: I love the "burble" sound. I even get some minor "pops"

:iagree:

the x-pipe puts the 'burbles' closer together, get more of a rumble.

Its not worth it. If you didn't want to hear a little exhaust burble, you would've kept your exhaust stock.
Any HP claims of the X-Pipe are hardly noticeable.

Well, thanks guys. Looks like you all just saved me $300 or so. Just need to make sure I don't want to wait to hear more on the Corsa extreme. I've always liked Borla, but I guess I should wait a little bit more (although this stock exhaust is so damn quiet)!
