Since replacing the gear is a PIA, do the job right with a brass gear. Buy the pair from Rodney Dickman and save $$. Comes in a handy kit with lube, epoxy and a nifty brace that will ensure the glue job on the motor housing holds. Should be a lifetime repair.

Hell. The bronze is cheaper then a tank of gas.

I've replaced the left gear with a Rodney gear, the other set is my desk drawer, I'll change the other one when I get a round tuit.
The C-4's have a similar problem, but it is cheaper to fix them. This is just part of the fun of being a Corvette owner. |
I just ordered the brass gear kit (pair) from Rodney. $87 plus $7 shipping (again, for the pair) is not that bad considering you are getting a brass gear, brace, rubber bumper, epoxy and instructions from Rodney. A better deal than Mid America. Thanks for all that contributed to this thread.

There ya go. You are doing the right thing. I put this repair in the same category as the Column Lock Bypass. If you have the money and are in the mood to make an improvement to the factory design this is a good one to add to the list as it will give you good return over the years. Let's see $94 for pop up gear "mod" and $55 for CLB "mod" = $150 for two worth while "mods." Not bad.

Because I have better ways to make money than producing brass gears. But at these prices I may need a career change  .
