Might as well check your blower motor, your VIR, your AC condensor(like a small radiator- I don't know the name.... http://www.corvetteforum.cc/zeroimg/...withstupid.gif) , replace your AC ducts, put you some new speakers in the dash, put in new ball vents if needed, etc., etc. etc., I'm not gettin in there twice :p:  :p:

Good luck!

My mechanic took about 9 hours with my '69 with a/c and also put new gaskets and seals on the heaterbox... :mad

My Vette guy said about $350.00. For labor.

$350 is a fantastic deal. Has he done a corvette before? My friend who is a mechanic will not even quote them. I repalced my heater core and that will be the last one I ever do. It is worth whatever they charge.
Dont you guys know that the assembly begins with a heater core, then builds the car around it? :U

That's just one more reason I love my non AC car! (Other good reason is the clean engine compartment.) Who drives a Corvette with the tops on, anyway? :D

Check Paul79's post for a non a/c core change. Can be done from the engine compartment in a short time. If you have a/c, money is well spent to have a garage do it. :)

Who needs heat??? Skip the middle man (heater core) and connect the heater hoses!!! Of course I'm full of: :bs . Even If I was mechanic being paid to repair the problem I know I would have several episodes of classic verbal nomenclature during the process. Did a heater core once....NEVER AGAIN! Money well spent to have it done. :flag

Looks like it will cost me around 300 bucks to get it done....I am also upgrading the fan and replacing the duct work in the car,,,,I am gonn put a c-5 corvette Fan(blower motor So that should push some serious air volume :smash:

"I am gonn put a c-5 corvette Fan(blower motor So that should push some serious air volume"

Never heard of anyone using a C5 blower motor in a C3! I've seen where a few forum members have successfully installed C4 blower motors, which requires building a custom spacer between box frame and blower motor to allow necessary clearance for the larger fan, I guess. As I recall, at least one of those members who performed this installation, remarked that he wasn't sure it was worth all the extra effort and work.

Is the C5 blower even better / moves more air than the C4 blower motor????

I am sure it will be a lot of work and yes I am sure the c-5 blower will push more volume than the C-4 would

Am interested in how the installation goes for you and the results you get, because I could use a little more air flow in my '81, even though I've installed a new heater core, cleaned and sealed the box and installed a new blower motor.

Would appreciate it if you could share your experience and results with us forum members when you complete the job.

Best of luck to you, it's not really a hard job, just frustrating sometimes, and pretty time consuming, since you'll probably run into some other 'while I'm at it' type jobs once you get started and get everything torn apart. (This was one of the first things I did on my '81 after I purchased it 3 1/2 years ago.) Just need to be patient and don't fall into temptation of getting too ruff with some of the dash parts, and don't force anything, or you may end up with some broken parts.

Replacing the heater core.....I'm halfway through it (core is out, and heater box is rebuilt) I'm waiting on a new core and some seals. Hope it isn't much harder to put back :) Actually wasn't bad to remove, just took some time and patience. Definitly not something you want to do on a deadline

I own a C5 and a C3 -- don't be so sure that fan will blow much harder. The fan in my C5 is one of the weakest I've ever been in -- honestly it's comperable to my '73. My girlfriends 2001 Sentra blows air harder than my C5.... :D
