The inside of a catalytic converter....

looks like what? Mine looks hollow and wide-open. Did the previous owner open it up? Anyone...what should it look like as you look through it?

Thanks.

Inside of a Cat Converter

It looks like a light collimator or a fine honeycomb. You can see straight through it but not at even a slight angle. The grid is usually a few inches thick (in the direction of flow) and the grid has small openings - less than 1/16". If the grid is lying around in pieces, it has fractured and will give poor performance (pollution-wise and high rev.-wise)
Sounds like yours has been gutted.

There are multiple designs for cats, but I can guarantee that one of them is NOT an empty tube. Just think... free HP!

Great pic...thank you Zoro. Thanks to all that responded. Yup, mine is wide open. Previous owner musta gutted it. I mean it is completely hollow....looks like an empty chamber.

I have no emmission testing here so I guess this is a good free mod!

Will a gutted cat converter cause any damage to the engine?
