Garage floor tiles
 

I want to buy some garage floor tiles and I wanted to know if anyone has bought some lately and how much do they cost? Just trying to find the best deal. Thanks.

I did my garage a few months ago thru costco.com. they are cuurently on sale for $99.99 a box of 48sq ft. 4 boxes of 48tiles (192sq ft) would be needed for a std garage plus the edging which is about $69.99 more. the colors are limited to black&white or charcoal tiles.

if you interested in different colors go to racedeck.com for more color design choices. It will run a more at about $3.25-$3.75 per sq foot vs the @ $2.50 per sq foot thru costco.

There are a lot of options on what kind of tile you can use. How important is appearance vs durability, etc. I simply used black and white commercial tiles. It takes a moderate amount of maintenance and looks pretty shiney. However, it would never stand up to heavy machinery being moved around on it, or exposure to solvents/gasoline. There are specialty tile types for that. You should Google and just do some research. Also check out Racedeck tile.

I did mine over 4 years ago and they hold up great ! If you munch one just peel it off and replace it. This floor has been through engine changes (2), trans replacements, front end rebuilds and too many other projects to list.

Superclean cleans them up like new

I wrap the wheels on my jack with duct tape to keep it from tearing up the floor.

One thing that bothers me about getting Race Deck et al tiles is I like my floors clean, Penske style. I wonder with the patterns on each tile how easy it would be to sweep with a broom (like my smooth concrete) and I think that would be difficult on these tiles. Rather it probably needs to be washed/hosed down and me with a pechant for clean floors and a 4 car garage I think I would tire quickly always having to hose it down, not to mention a waste of water. What's your experience?

Depends on "which" tiles your talking about. I had a RaceDeck floor installed for about $3.50/sq foot by a local RD distributer here in St Louis. I did about 600 sq feet for about $2300

Turned out great, he even brought a laptop computer and we worked out the design together.

We love it. I use a blower to clean it, and if/when I need to I damp mop it. What is nice is should we move I can take the floor with me. So I get to keep my investment.

I went with the Armstrong floor tiles and this floor has been down about 11 years. I strip it once a year and give it 4 coats of wax. It has seen many full car restorations and engine builds, still look's great! :thumbs:

Any copolymer polypropylene tile; ie: Race Deck, Craftsman, etc. can be easily swept clean and wet/damp mopped.

I've got RaceDeck flooring and just use a push broom and damp mop when necessary.

AFVETTE - How's Racedeck work in the winter? Im' afraid all the salt, slush and snow will melt beneath the tiles and form a winter-long swamp. I heat my garage, so I'm afraid of mold and mildew under the tile. Your experience in IL?

Haven't gone through a winter yet, but since the RD tiles allow liquid to seep through and the tiles are designed with channels on the underside to allow liquid to run off and breath (with the slope of the garage floor) I doubt I'll have any issues. I'll just damp mop any residue after it dries.

You can always lay a ribbed vinyl pad over the tiles.

I did that on the part of my garage where we park the quad.
