How to set timing ('85)
The timing is off on my bf's Vette. Does he need to get a timing light or is there any other way to set it??? any help is greatly welcomed...

Yes he'll need a timing light. Their is a brown connector close to the firewall on the driver side that will need to be unplugged (EST wire...1 wire connector) prior to loosening the distrubutor. Start the car, set the timing at 6 degrees BTDC and retighten the distrubutor. Rehook up the connector, undo the negative battery cable for 30 seconds to clear the code for the timing being disconnected and you are good to go. This is best done with a Helm (www.helminc.com) manual. Their is one for sale in the for sale section of the forum. Good luck!

Thanks goldeneye_vet. I was just hoping to find another way without a trip to the store for the timing light.

Just a note to add to the above: let the car get to operating temperature prior to setting the timing. I find it easier to do the timing when the car is at "normal idle" RPM.
