It list for around 2250.00 but I have found it online for under 1400.00 My plan is to purchase it online and find a good installer.... so the search is on.
I first saw this unit at a Car Toys store in Dallas. The harddrive built into the system makes it very easy to store your CD's. Everytime you put in a CD it hasen't played, it will rip it onto the HD so you don't need the CD again. I believe it saves it as an MP3 file so you can load lot's of music onto the system. The navigation software is also loaded onto the HD which gives faster access to the data than a typical DVD reader. Here is a link to the pioneer site with lots of good information on the unit. http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...html#AVIC-HOME |

I also like the fact that I can "download" a cd and develop my own library since it has a hard drive built in. It will record whatever you put in. I just had the XM processor installed and it comes with a traffic feature that will let you know what the traffic is like in the area in which your are travelling. I do not live in a large city but it is great when we are going to one. I cannot say anything negative about this unit. I have had it for a couple months now and really haven't figured everything out but it has so many features it will take a while to learn them all. You can't go wrong with the Z1. Robin |

I bought it as well. Got it from http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=946 and they were offering a discount for CF Members a while back. I ended up buying the Sirius Tuner, the Bluetooth unit, the chime keeper, and Dashkit from them. I love the setup, and never had any issues with it. ;)

I'm interested in how it looks in the C6 dash. |
Ohh boy,,, are these refurbs or Japanese imports? I've heard horror stories about these companies. I did alot of research on digi cams and found out that too good to be true deals we're Canon knockoffs.. be careful bro.. Those prices are below dealer cost and Pioneer regulates that.
|
Be sure the verify that Pioneer will honor the warranty if purchased through an online dealer. Pioneer only honor the warrenty if it was purchased through an "authorized dealer".
|
I have it and I love it! I got it through a friend but I also saw it on ebay for $1599 buy it now price. I also hooked up the nav traffic feature for $3.99 more on my xm bill, I think for fifty bucks a year its worth it. Overall I say its the best Head Unit on the market right now.

I heard that this unit have a gyro sensor. So the DVD video would not play while the car is moving. There is no way around this. IS this true?

My installer told me he could put some sort of switch in it to make the DVD player work while driving. I don't ever watch dvd's in my car so I didn't ask him to explain it but he said they had done a number of them with no problems. Robin |

Any install issues or problems? How long of an install? Thanks

Bet it does not work with the HUD. I find that one of the neat features of the current Vette nav system.

1. i hate the mp3 player in the stock unit.. its too sluggish.. 2. the display is subpar to this one. 3. the built in HD will be really nice for storing songs on... |

If there is something you don't want to record, then just touch the "stop recording" section. As for the unit, I had thte stock nav unit and the Z1 just slips right in. Nothing as needed to make it work. I had a complete stereo system installed with speakers, amps, etc. because I do not like Bose at all. Here are some pics I have that I was actually taking of my steering wheel I had just gotten from DS Vettes. I hope it will give you an idea of how it looks. It really does look alot like stock. Thanks. Excuse the fingerprints. I have a cloth they gave me to use but I don't use it every day. I should get a screensaver. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...IMG_0950-1.jpg http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...IMG_0948-1.jpg |

After having vehicles with Nav I don't like not having it. I'm installing this one in my SUV next week when it gets delivered, can't wait! The AVIC line has nice navigation and this is the best one yet from what I've seen. Will post a comparison to the factory C6 Nav when I get it done

Funny thing is the AVIC series and our navigation share the same "skeleton". I've looked at the file structure and they are remarkably similar -- but I'm sure our units were $50 cheaper to produce.
Over at the AVIC411 forums they claim the safety features of the Z1 can be easily bypassed. |

Thanks, I'm looking for an installer now. The Car Toys place in Frisco said they have installed several of these in vettes, but I'm going to check out Best Buy to see if they have installed them as well. |
It is advisable to pay a bit more and have peace of mind about the purchase. Good luck  When I get my C6 next year I plan on installing the same unit in it as well. If I really like it I am going to put one in the C5 also :D |
Do Not buy from that site.. its a Scam.. do your research.. |
where do I get the stering wheel ? thank you

I'm interested in what you find out as well. I ordered my '07 Z06 without the Nav with the express intent of adding the Pioneer Z1 instead. I'm picking up the Z at the Museum in a little over two weeks and will be looking to add the Pioneer shortly after we get back into town. |

I just ordered one.. got it for $1499.06 with shipping from www.6ave.com. They are distributors for Pioneer, so no warranty worries...
Evidently there is no wiring harness available to tap into the stock wiring, but really you only need to get power and lighting from the factory harness, and could use quick connectors so you don't have to cut factory wires. I am changing everything, getting rid of factory speakers, amp, etc and putting a whole system in. Have to run wires to the door speakers, but I have been doing this for years so it shouldn't be much of a problem. Looking forward to getting rid of Doctor Bose, that's for sure. I will post pics when the install is complete. |

I kept the stock, non-bose, speakers and amps for now, but the harness also has preamp outs. Non-bose, you cut them off and wire into the line level of the new HU, bose, you would leave them on. For the illumination wire, I at first used the gray/black wire off the Traction Control button, like posted elsewhere on this avic411.com, but for me, that low voltage connection wouldn't trigger ducati boy's flasher, so I ran a wire back to the wiring harness going to the tail lights and put it on the tail light circuit. Wired in right before the wiring harness goes through the back to the bumper area, reverse light to light green wire, illumination to a kind of grayish brown wire. VSS wire, at the ecu, as per the above CF link. The only current issues are the poor bluetooth mic, which I plan on replacing with a directional one, per the forums advice, and the static when pushing buttons. I will look for a new ground, other than the harness, but its kind of tough on a plastic car! _________________ ducati boy's flasher - on www.avic411.com there is a member, ducati boy that sells a unit that goes inline with the illumination wire. It simulates turning on and off the headlights 3 times at startup which is a hack to allow full fuctionality while moving. It only works on units with a build date of June 06 and earlier. On the July and later ones, there is a different, much easier and free workaround. Check out the avic forum for more info. |
reviewing the thread, looks like a little confusion, the chime unit is the wiring harness also.

Corvette Pilot, you're right, I wasn't thinking too clearly this morning, I ordered the Metra harness that keeps the chime, etc... and of course the mounting kit. Now, all I really need to know is speaker sizes for the doors and rear in a vert. I think 3 1/2 for the small door speaker is right, but what is the largest size to replace the larger speaker ? Also, are the rear speaker locations able to accept a 5 1/2 ? Any suggestions out there for good sound quality speakers to use ? I do not plan to use the center channel speaker anyhow, so that's irrelevant. Thanks !

Fortunately, a new switch is only about $10 from Fred Beans. Here is a close up of it, although the top part of mine is broken off. For the rest of the info on removing it, there is an excellent thread here on the forum with a step by step.

Has anyone used Alpines latest nav to compare it to the Pioneer?? I have Alpine's latest one in my Escalade now and I love it, just wondering if the Pioneer would be better or if I should just pull the Alpine and have it put in the C6 when I trade the truck in.
