Re: Whats the best year Vette? What one had the most HP? (blk91)

you ask 2 questions... one is subjective, the other objective.

1) subjective - 1967.

2) objective - 1967-69(or so) The L88. 427, with a reported 550 odd hp. This is SAE gross hp, tho. Even with guess-t-mating it, the L88, I bet, puts out about 420 or so. There was the ZL1, the aluminum 454. It was rated at 465 gross. The L88 was rated at 430hp. sure. uh, huh. whatever.

Mine is 300.

by the way, all hp ratings given by manufacturer's is the SAE net, at the crank shaft. Net means they use a waterpump and engine driven accessories. basically, the idea is to provide the amount of power left to drive the car.

I agree with bogus on the objective. That car was a screamer. The best has been traditionally the latest year made. Every year car has been better than the year before.... and every Vette I have owned has been better than the one before. Better Quality, Engineering, handling.... etc.

:D :D    :yesnod: :chevy

I love my '70. It was a strike year, so the production was a lot lower than other years. It was the last year for the high compression engines before they added a lot of extra smog stuff. Plus it has a little flare on the body to help with rock chips which is nice, and of course you've gotta love the shark curves and the chrome bumpers. :D As for High Hp, the LT-1 small block was underrated at 370. But the weight savings of the 350 over the 454's made the handling & weight balance just awesome. The only way I will ever sell my '70 350/300, will be for a '70 LT-1 convertible. http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/smile.gif ~Juliet

I read an article about the development of the LT1. The GM engineers brought out the an 1970 LT-1 out of storage and dyno'ed it, made ~295 SAE hp. They made the 1992 LT1 have 300 SAE HP so the newer LT1 would be the most powerful production Chevy small block ever. Of course, next they made the LT4 http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/smile.gif

Re: Whats the best year Vette? What one had the most HP? (GSMVette 919)

The ZL1 was a 427 engine not a 454 it also put out 600+ h.p. at the flywheel the LT-1 was not the most hp offerd in a small block it was the 65 327-375 fuelie. Since Chevy only made 2 ZL1's (on is owned by Corvette mike) and the only other one "disapered" the ultimate vette has to be the 67-69 L-88 these were dynoed at 560+hp and production was around 250 cars the most rare being the 67's only 20 rolled out of St. Louis Damn that ultimate corvette trivia challenge book came in handy :jester
