L98 to LT1 intake conversion?

Just curious if anyone has ever tried this, or if it is even possible on an '86 cast iron head L98.....

This link should tell you all you need. I didn't like the way you have to run the remote thermostat, but thats just me!

I've got a friend who has one on a built '85. He's very happy with it and it's a strong runner.

Search on the THIRDGEN.ORG forum. Few people tried, even fewer got it to work successfully using a converted LT1 intake..

Good idea, I'd be doing it if it didn't mean no Emissions, chances of eaten distrbutor gears and coolant leaks, remote thermostat :ack: , need for smaller distributor, etc..

I have a conversion, I did most of the work myself with the exception of welding extra metal around the water jacket for extra insurance (no leakage) the advantage of a conversion is to allow the engine to pull more air at high RPM, if you have head work and a higher revving cam you will see a BIG differents. I pickup 5 mph in the 1/4 doing it, which result in 50 hp or more doing that. check my web page

I am in the process of doing the same thing. Randy, how did you get the bigger distributor to fit? Did you machine the egr ports off? I am considering doing that because I don't want to set it up for remote coil application.

Working on one at present.
If you cut away EGR boss completely you only have to cover a hole 1.5 x 2 where the exh gas went under the runners. You will need custom lines ( a -AN fitting on each rail )with the large HEI as the large cap won't clear the stock lines.
As above I am going to weld extra material above the stock water jackets as there is little room for error and the LT1 manifold is a lot lower than stock in these areas.
