Maybe you want to sell the kit?? I could not sell my car so when I get back from Iraq I think its time for a repaint/color change!

Why don't you guys contact this Forum vendor and see if he can make what you want?
He makes all kinds of things for C5's.

Probably not going to happen. My body guy has built hundreds of F-glass boat hulls; carbon fiber, too, including making molds from scratch. To do the kit, or even just the popular rear bumper, prices it well out of what what the market will likely bear.

The body kit gets plenty of attention at shows and elsewhere; always a convo starter,; then the rumbling 409 doesn't hurt, either. This 400-derived SBC will give a ZR-1 a good run; will probably beat a stock one. The 3.55 rear end calculates top speed at 180+; not likely realized anytime soon.

We made some black-chromed, square exhaust tips to as-closely-as-possible duplicate Larry's design genius, but added a small accent: a shape that mimics the rear profile.

Also, I opted for Sledgehammer-style, but toned down, hood exhaust vents
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/pict...984656&thumb=1

and carbon fiber C-6 style headlights.

I am amazed this thread is still alive. Still like mine but have thought about selling from time to time.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...91Vette002.jpg

So instead of selling I bought it something to keep it company.

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r...9/IMAG0117.jpg

Now when I get back from Kuwait and retire next year I was thinking of diasassembling the Shinoda for paint. Would anyone be interested in making molds from the parts?

whalepirot 04-21-2012 01:29 PM

Seems that's twice that I resurrected the near-dead thread. I took the car to a local gathering, early this morning and it got some interest, tho few know what it is. I will update my profile to include the Shinoda info, as the car gets out now and then.

One big obstacle to these kits is the unique and scarce hardware to attach, especially the lower door panels. The instructions are easy and can be photocopied, but the unique clips are a problem; the panels being such that employing other clips may be impossible.

On another note, AFAIK, the Last Detail owns the rights to this kit and may have objections to others making parts.

To those, like me, who were interested in the tail piece only, there is a problem fitting it, alone. The lines do not fit with the rest of a stock car. That's how I started but now that I have the kit, I see the problem. Additionally, the more I see the rest of the car, the more I like and appreciate the smooth lines in total.

There are a few kits around; I almost bought a second one, as backup, reecently. It was listed locally, online, about a month ago. Be advised, a proper fitment involves more than just painting and swapping panels, as I'd initially thought. This is further aggravated by old panels that may have deformed in storage or were imperfect when made.

For the repaint, be very careful in removing the old hardware, as replacements have not been found by this owner, the clips are not designed to be removed easily and are not easily substituted due to panel design. This is particularly true of the upper clips that hold the lower door panels.

Can you PM me with the info on the "local" body kit. If its available. Thanks.

Hey vette40509, I remember speaking to you many many years ago (probably around 2004) when I brought one of these kits and you gave great advice.

I have since sold the 87 convertible and never installed the kit, so still have this whole kit in original boxes in brand new condition sitting in my garage if anyone wants it for the right price - problem is shipping won't be cheap as I am located in Australia!

PM with any offers if anyone is seriously interested...

So close, yet so far away.....

Just curious, measurements and weight of boxes?

Rick Mears Special Addition Shinoda Body Kit

Hello,

I currently have the complete pearl color Shinoda body kit.. I was thinking of selling this to an enthusiast who would like to, eventually and professionally, install it or for collection.

It's in great shape all boxed up. From what I understand, the kit I have, came from the original Rick Mears Corvette. The kit was on the car but has been disassembled. If anyone is interested, please email me and i will send pictures..

Thanks,
Thimitri

Shinoda Mears Body Kit

It has been years since I logged in and I see alot of interesting posts from fellow owners of the best body kit ever made. I even got to see the orignal Vavoom LPE vette try to be sold at auction in Carlise a few years ago. It did not meet reserve and unfortunately there was not much interest. I hope the other owners are still rolling and enjoying their C4's.
Chris

Hey Chris, hows it going. Kuwait is still full of sand, but I may not be here long.

Thanks Robin for sending the pictures of your Blue 96 Grand Sport!!! Someone else has an uninstalled kit in there garage. There seem to be quite a few in california, home of custom cars, and where the kit was manufactured (I think). Has anyone seen or have floor mats to this kit, one person mentioned seeing them in an advertisement. I am missing the badges for my car and was wondering if anyone had any or knew how to get ones made? Wishing everyone on the Forum and your families a Happy Holiday.

Here's a photo of the floor mats. The ones that came with my Corvette don't appear to have been used, no wear.

Old thread about Shinoda Mears Vette body mod.

Was really surprised that this thread was still active. I had even forgot my password. LOL. I still have my 90 Vette with Shinoda body package. I have never seen another one recently at any of the car shows I attend here on the east coast. I did go to Digital Corvettes and see that several other people over the years added pictures of theirs. Most recently a white one.

AH, thanks. I've been looking for that for some time Having the badges, assembly manual and similar exhaust tips, they're only piece(s) missing. If may not have been an option, but looks great and could relatively easily be reproduced from available black floor mats.
