Robert, are you doing core exchanges on sets that are crazed/pitted?

Thanks!

-Ronnie

RLSebring 08-23-2011 01:16 PM

Core charge doesn't apply to these lights as they are a straight out purchase. You retain your existing lights or sell them to me or anybody for that matter.

I offer 200.00 for your set with lens damage. Other damage can/will affect the price.

^ interested to know the answer to this as well. I'm wanting the black headlights for my car but would prefer to keep the OE ones as backup.

The prices in post 1 are a straight out purchase no core charge.

I'll edit my post as a core charge doesn't apply in this type of purchase. The buying of the old lights are the same offer as in my previous post.

I'd have to check what year colbalt was but it will be different than percision red.

Cool. There isnt a Cobalt red corvette(its an interior color only on c6s), and after looking it up, im sure that the cobalt red will come back as a paint code for Precision red. If this is accurate, then I may need that HL. Thanks

Seems like I ran into this before. The sticker on the headlight says Colbalt but I think it is like you said.

I'd like to find a good color chip set. Some of these lights are so close that I'd like to verify beyond a doubt.

Thanks guys.

I've been trying to remember to write down the color when there is a tag still on the bottom of the light. I always say I can remember but after a few sets taken apart and lying around for several days it's suddenly what was that color.

I usually paint them all black but ocassionally somebody or a body shop will call lookingfor a specific color and I'm all http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...lies/crazy.gif trying to remember.

I'm stoked to see the new design's coming out :woohoo:

No Problem and good timing. I just took a bunch of bezels to the paint shop Monday so it will be easy breezy to have a set paint CG. It will be about a week or so before I get them back.

I'll PM details.

Thanks

I usually only buy lights with damaged lens as I will change the lens and paint the bezels black in the process. Can't really afford to take a nice pair apart and do what I do and make any money.

Colors other than Black and Cyber Grey generally bring about 600 to 800 here on the forum.

I can take yours and paint them paint them black and install new lens for 800.00

Sorry I can't be of more help.

If anybody is going to be around. We are leaving Pensacola around 2pm so that will put us coming into South Atlanta around 8ish with the time change.

We can come by and visit for a little before having to head on up to Marietta. We'll be heading back out of Atlanta around 2 or so Sunday to come home.

I rounded up some German Halo's that I am going to flush mount in the carbon. Plan to start probably in Nov. If it turns out right they should be bad azz.

I think these will be more custon than most. All that I have seen they just stick the halo to the silver bezel trim. They also us the same size halo on the low and high beam which looks funny.

I at least either paint the silver trim or just remove the trim and mount the bezel to the face of the bezel.

The ones I located are the correct size of the opening and lend themselves to be mounted on the surface much better. I'm going to recess them into the carbon fiber so that only the face of the halo shows. I am anticipating the look should be, at least, better than a make do or afterthought.

Ya'll think a halo inside the turn lens would be too much? Maybe use the halo as the running light and turn signal eliminating the stock bulb...

It might look cool, especially if you can have the option to run with two, and then turn the drl on when you feel like it.

I know the fake audi led drl strip is often done poorly but I would love a classy implementation.

The pics are flat. Later into the winter I'll be recessing halos into my carbon fiber bezels.

As far as I know no one is really doing anything with fiber. Just not worthwhile resale wise.

The ones I've did so far the customer has provided the halos. I have installed the expensive Light Werkz (250 to 350 set(4)) and I've installed the CCFLs. I've only installed them while replacing the lens too.

I guess I need to get a pencil out and see what will work out.

I am going to try and clean inside the lens. I dont have lenses that are discolored, my Z06 only has 6000 miles on it and it has spent its life in a garage, they just have dust inside. Any tips on cleaning the inside?

I used a 2' long piece of oil pressure line (1/8")and fished it in behind the trim ring. Its a wicked PITA. Pull the wheel and the rubber cover behind the lights, make sure the light bulb covers(oval bowl shaped rubber) goes on tight afterword or water may get in later.
ps. DON'T SCRATCH THE INSIDE OF THE LENS! If you use compressed air be careful the hose acts like an unmanned fire hose while in there and it'll scuff the lens. Ask me how I know.

Looks like your new business is doing pretty well! I'm in line for a set with halos! Keep us posted.

RLSebring 12-04-2011 09:58 PM

The inside of the lens are a booger bear. The inside doesn't have the same protective coating that the outside has and is very easy to scratch and mar. Other than air I would not attempt to actually touch the inside surface or if you do keep me in mind for the replacements.

The headlights and lens have been a hobby for the most part for the past few years. I have my real job that comes first. I may have to look into turning this into more of a business though as it is growing.

Look around eBay and see if any of the Halos offered suit what you are looking for. I may be able to do a set in your color more at my leisure then just do a core swap out.

The labor will probably remian in the 275. range then figure lens and if you plan on changing color. It can add up quickly though...

What were the sizes you used in the pics? Is there a decent vendor that sells different halo sizes?

It doesn't sound like cleaning the inside going to likely work.

It bugged me so bad (my buddies knew it so they constantly busted my balls)I had to do something. If the tube thing scares you just try using compressed air past the lights. If it is just dust that may actually work.

These from Germany are the only ones that came in sizes that actually fit the area on the bezel. They are ~65mm and 70mm Both of light werkz rings are like 68mm. It's a tad big for the low beam placement and too small for the high beam placement. Of course they glue it to the silver trim ring which IMHO looks like Butt.

I made backing plates for both rings, attached to the bezels then glue the rings to the backing plate. A lot of work. The ones from Germany fit much better and look like they may mount directly to the bezel and the size is closely proportional to the size opening of the low and high beam openings.

There's several vendors on Bay but I haven't looked into most of them. Prices range from 75. to 300. so the quality probably enters the picture.

Didn't mean to scare you from trying it. Just need to be careful. I would definately use air only first and see what results that produces and go from there.

I too was interested in carbon fiber but I heard that the carbon looks like its just black paint unless your up real close. anyone seen them in real life?
I wonder if the bezel can just be skinned with carbon from a diy kit?

You can do them yourself and save a lot of money in the process. have did carbon in the past and lost my rear end. Just wasn't enough paying customers to make it worthwhile.

I have also had them hydro carbonned and while they looked real good it wasn't great.

Mine are carbon and in the bright sun or within about 10' you can tell they are real carbon. Any further away and they do tend to appear just black.

383 12-09-2011 04:39 PM

How did you lay the carbon with a vacuum bag or a wet lay up? I love that look but they are crazy expensive.
How much would you charge for a set of lights I could work on myself? They wouldn't have to match and I could replace the lens myself after I lay carbon on them.

RLSebring 12-09-2011 06:07 PM

Interesting you'd ask about DIY. I have been rolling that around in my head for the past weeks to offer a set of lights in need of rehab along with a set of new lens. Let me see what I can work up that would make sense.

On the layup I have did the wet layup, PrePreg and vaccuum infusion. The wet layup was by far the most costly in terms of waste and labor. Just a nasty job.

The vaccuum infusion was by far the most cost effective but disastrous in not being able to really see what you're doing. Most materials it's not a problem as you'd have gelcoat or non bias materials you're working with.

The prepreg was best but way more expensive. It conformed right to the shape and keeping the matrial on bias was not problem. Get it placed and set in the oven or sun for a few minutes and you're done. It made for a nice overlay then you could clear it to your personal prefference.

It would appear to be Victory red. $550.00 with new GM OEM Lens installed and including shipping.

Hi, I have a question how much would it be for me to take out my VY headlights and ship them to you to have them painted black. Would save me some
Money instead of buying all new black ones id imagine, do you do somthing like this or no ? And what would the turn around time be ?

RLSebring 02-15-2012 06:50 PM

3 options

Send me your lights. It will require new lens in the process. With lens and paint it runs ~800. including return shipping.

I can sell you new lens with instructions on how to change them. While they are open have a local paint shop paint you bezels. Would save the most money. Lens run 339.00 shipped pr.

Buy a set of my used black with new lens installed for 1080. then sell yours on here or eBay to offeset the cost.

IF I do it I'd need about 10 days roughly.

I hooked up the Halo lights you sent me to a 9Volt Battery on Friday and When I got home this morning they were still on. Those suckers must use no power whatsoever

That'sgood to know. They won't put any stress on th stock lighting circuit.

BTW your cores showed up yesterday, Thanks

RLSebring 02-21-2012 11:51 PM

Corvette Recycling have some fairly reasonable...

HKILP7M8 02-22-2012 12:27 AM

How difficult are they to install?

Not too bad. Most are able to remove and install the lights in 2 to 3 hours. I have good instructions I include with the sale. Basically remove enough screws from the fenders and top of front bumper to create enough space to get the lights out.

Local dealer usually allows 2 or so labor hours to do this for you as well.

search the General Section of the forum. Type in black headlights and you should get more than enough info from those that have posted their results. See Forum Member Thrash posted thread.

Do you have any pics of a Jetstream blue w/black headlights? I'm toying with the idea

RLSebring 02-22-2012 09:52 AM

Yes, Thanks to Ken Horse.

Man that looks really sharp.

Ok, now I'm really tempted. When I buy a set of black headlights from you, do you include all the bulbs/ballast/etc or do I need to swap my existing ones over? I feel like my JSB headlights would be worth more if they included all the items to make them plug and play.

Also, do you take the old ones in as cores or are you not interested in the painting process?

The lights I send you would be plug and play unless you wanted otherwise.

I usually only buy damaged lens lights and pay up to 200.00 set so you would definately get more for them here or on eBay.

RLSebring 02-22-2012 10:03 AM

I can also just do your lights. Comes out to about 800. with paint and new lens.

JUIC3D 02-22-2012 10:09 AM

The ones you sell for 1080, are those OEM black? Or have they been painted?

They are generally going to be painted as almost all my trade in are a different color.

My painter, who is one of the best and oldest running Corvette oriented shops around, uses the 2 stage process and OEM paint code to paint these. There are literally hundreds out there over the past 4 years with absolutely no problems reported.

You can do a search on black headlights. A lot of the threads will concern my customers that have the black painted headlights and ask them if they are happy.

JUIC3D 02-22-2012 10:24 AM

Oh I'm sure they would look fine, I was just curious, that's all.

I'm torn on adding more power to the car, or working on the visuals right now so when I decide that, I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks for the info
