Default I sorta kinda went on a binge......

Had my D5000 now since I got it new, Summer of 2009. Got out of photography for a little while but rekindled my interest earlier this year and found my D5000 lacking for what I wanted to do. Randomly browsing for sale listings and I ended up jumping off into the deep end.

Got the D7100 with the 18-55 VR II lens for $400. Maybe a little steep but the camera is flawless and it only has 5700 shutter cycles.

Picked up the 70-200 f2.8 VR today for a song. A whopping $500 flat. One of those don't even think about it types of deals.

Waiting on a 10-24 ultrawide to come in also, as I found one that was again, in near perfect shape, for well under normal market.....$330 for this one.

Also got a battery grip coming for the 7100.

Why? Hell, why not? The two lenses are part of my dream lineup (the 17-55 f2.8 as a walk-around and 200-500 VR for wildlife stuff), the opportunities presented themselves, and I'm one seriously happy camper right now that I can more aptly take pics at my kids sporting events.

Now just need to use the old D5000 to get my kids or wife into it.

That's the plan. I've been behind a phone camera far too long now and am so glad I got back into real cameras this year.

Oh and my 10-24 came in today too! That thing is a champ IMO as I love the perspective you can get out of it.

I have a Nikon D7100 and it's a great camera. My favorite camera of the 7 DSLR cameras I own (5 Nikons and 2 Olympus).
Have fun with your D7100.

That 10-24 IMO is one of the best EFs Lenses made. You will love it.

I went from a D5100 to a D850. Weird jump, but then replaced the D5100 with a used D7000. The autofocus and other basics are much improved with each generation, and the faster tracker/ more points makes a big difference if you're doing sports or nature shots. You can find so many deals on Nikon gear, so it makes it so much more affordable to have a semi-pro setup. My next planned move is a D500 for action and relegating the D850 to static/ landscape type shots.

Enjoy your new toys...!

I have both D500 and D850 and use them for exactly what you mentioned. Both worked great.

Unfortunately haven't had much of a chance to use it yet. Been playing with it a little, starting to try to dial in the camera settings to where I like. There's a pretty big difference in terms of on camera functions from the D5000 to the D7100 and it's forcing me into a steep learning curve.

I did manage to make a safety net for everything when it's sitting in my office at home (I have two prototypical boys ages 8 and 12). Enter the harbor freight apache 5800 Pelican case knock off.

Had to figure something out because my lowepro bag didn't have room for everything. So I went overkill.

Test image I took today with the 70-200 in fading overcast light. Handheld wide open hence the slight fuzziness, but I'm happy with the colors and what sharpness I got.

I put the D5000 and the 18-55 VR in my 8 year olds hands yesterday and he was SOOOOOOOOOO excited. But man I forgot how slow that VR1 lens focused. He was happy though and I think he might be using it more.

I own a Nikon D7100 and it is by far my most favorite DSLR of the 7 DSLRs I own (5 Nikons and 2 Olympus). Great camera. It will serve you will...

So started playing with the Autofocus Fine Tuning today on three of my lenses, those being the 18-55 VRII, 38 f1.8, and 10-24. Surprisingly, or NOT surprisingly, the 10-24 ended up set to 0 as the center point of the range. The 18-55 ended up being a +1, and the 35 f1.8 ended up being a +4.

Not sure if anyone is interested but here's the results, just a center clip at full resolution. Everything was shot at a distance of 20x the focal length per the directions I used.

18-55 VR II shot at 35mm WITHOUT the filter on the lens. For a simple kit lens I really am pleased with this. BUT.....see below. I was ready to throw it out.

18-55 VR II WITH the filter and flash on........I forgot the filter was on and I'm glad I did because I was disgusted with this result. Give you one guess where that cheap filter went, lol.

35 f.18 -- this is more like it.

And the 10-24. Had the flash on for this one too but even though it's washed out it's still sharp (IMO) which is what I was going for.
