Incredible 11.94 Stock Run (Mark-44)
Tuesday night at Gateway we had great air at 231' and Mark and I both had our personal bests. Mark-44 ran an incredible 11.94 ET on a stock vette and I ran 11.62. Below is a paste from Brett Kipner's news letter for anyone that questions Mark's run.
"Two-time SCSS event winner Faisal Merghelani’s black ’03 Corvette Z06 ran a best-ever 11.30/122.30 but missed qualifying by twenty-four thousandths of a second…Bob McCreary’s silver ’04 Vette, (11.62/117.42), Gary Tadlock’s ‘03 ‘Vette, (12.18/116.32), and Mark Yehling’s all-white, all-stock ’97 Corvette, (11.94/114.32), also ran career-bests…"

Thanks for the plug, we did have a good time and our cars were running great. However Bret did identify my car incorrectly, he made it faster than it is; My best time that night was 11.962 @ 114.19 and the car is not bone-stock; the engine (with 116,600 miles) internally is stock, the valve covers, heads, oil pan, balancer and flywheel have never been removed; the 2:73 differential is original also.
Bolt-on modifications include a Callaway intake to the ZO6 manifold and TTS longtubes with a Corsa X-pipe and the original mufflers with my homemade cut-outs. Other mods include a PI 2800 SC.
It does run strong and is now consistantly in the elevens with the 2:73 gear; BTW as a daily driver it gets 30 MPG on I-70 and my goal is to get even better times.
So, the skeptics were right....it's not stock. But it is fun to smoke those MT DR's.

I wish you were in PA so I could get some pointers from you.

Nice job!
What size DRs are you running? I have been hoping to get into the 11s but don't think we'll ever get that low of a DA. Best this year is 12.34. I have similar mods except rockers and 6-spd and higher mileage at 124,000!

It is not a Bone Stock 97; it is a bolt-on only LS1. Bret Kepner's artical quoted by CROSSTHELINE was in error. However, it does run into the 11's. BTW with the original stock tune it made 317.70 HP to the wheels and Max Torque of 320.05.

A few of us from Metro St. Louis area are trying to "Represent" the huge numbers of area Corvette owners at Gateway and we are having fun doing it. The last Corvette Round-up for the 9-16 Test & Tune netted 30 Corvettes, 18 ran.
Hope to see you at the next one.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.... and congraulations again for your good times at your first track visit.
I looked up my first visit ... my car averaged 13.537 at 104.352. It already had the long tube headers and I did a zip-tie mod for the intake.

With my automatic and the 2:73 gear I run 17" ZO6 wheels on the rear with the Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials. With your 3:42 gear the BF Goodrich 18" Drag Radials may be the answer for you.
Keep on driving....I think these LS1's are great and hope to get 200K 1/4 mile at a time.
