Default The Good and the bad!

I went to the track yesterday out in Crandall Texas (Dallas Raceway) great weather yesterday to run the car. Track was not crowed at all, there were only had a few break downs, and the car hooked up great. Overall with 30 to 45 minute cool downs I got 6 passes!

Modifications: Cam, Ported 243 heads, Ported LS6 intake, ASP underdrive pulley, SLP Blackwing,Dynotech Super Max Headers with cats, Corsa Touring Cat Back Exhaust

The Good:

First pass on street tires:

When I picked up the time slip I knew it was going to be a good day, on that pass I had to get out of second gear because of axel hop.

60 – 2.09
330 – 5.602
1/8 – 8.413
Mph – 88.33
1000 – 10.776
¼ - 12.728
Mph 113.03

Second pass I barrowed a set of BF Goodrich Drag Radials from a friend:

Left at 3000 rpm and slipped the clutch. I was pumped fastest time the car ever ran!

60 – 1.973
330 – 5.397
1/8 – 8.110
Mph – 90.50
1000 – 10.424
¼ - 12.372
Mph – 112.08

Third pass:

Launched at 3000 rpm, this turned out to be the best mile per hour for the day.

60 – 1.944
330 – 5.38
1/8 – 8.103
Mph – 90.95
1000 – 10.405
¼ - 12.33
Mph – 115.76

Fourth pass:

Driver and car was getting consistently faster! Launched at 3500 rpm.

60 – 1.914
330 – 5.318
1/8 – 8.011
Mph – 91.57
1000 – 10.301
¼ - 12.229
Mph – 113.36

Fifth pass:

I hit the rev limiter in third gear so that killed my mph and probably my 11 second pass! Left at 3500 rpm on this pass.

60 – 1.810
330 – 5.166
1/8 – 7.86
Mph – 90.87
1000 – 10.170
¼ - 12.105
Mph – 112.90

Sixth pass:

At this point I thought, I’ll lower the air pressure from 22 psi in the drag radials to 20 and leave at 4000 rpm. All this did was slow down the E.T. and cause the tires to spin. Plus I heard a noise when I shifted into second gear on the drivers side rear.

60 – 1.908
330 – 5.361
1/8 – 8.099
Mph – 89.37
1000 – 10.437
¼ - 12.397
Mph – 111.32

Now for the Bad:

I thought I would let a friend make a pass and it broke the output shaft on the drivers side on the starting line. Not his fault I probably broke out put shaft the on the sixth pass.

Now I have to think about whether to just fix the car with a regular GM half shaft or go ahead and spring for a RPM differential with 3:90's

Oh well it was a fun time at the track yesterday except for breaking the car! I know there is more in the car just need more practice.

you dont have to redo the whole diff...just put a hardened shaft in there and keep at it...the C6Z is a cheap upgrade or you can do a hardened one from RPM or DTE for like 300 bux
what kind of power are you making and with what clutch?

It's a LS7 Clutch. Car made 420 rwhp and 400 rwtq. Car has the stock gearing in it (M6 with 3:42's). I was having to shift into fourth at around the 1000 foot mark. thanks...

Very nice!

So close to 11s...

Yeh, what Camo said... Just put in a C6Z shaft for about $100 or so. Unless you want taller gears... I really like my 4.10s

Nice job, you will hit the 11's soon. Just make sure you didn't snap the output shaft of the trans.

Good job Joe! I heard the timing was messed up out there. Your mph was probably faster.

P.S. Don't forget about the 3.90's I have.

Nice runs, man! You will see that 11 sec pass before you know it. then you will be shooting for something bigger.

I had both outputs upgraded and went with the 300M shafts. I launch at 4000-5000 on slicks ad spray and I havent broke eiher yet (knock on wood!!!). LOL

Thanks Everyone!

Well I decided since the car was down to go ahead and set the rear end up with an RPM Stage 2 differential with a 3:90 gear set. Car should be back together next week. I choose the 3:90’s because I wanted to have the car set up close to a C5 Z06 gear ratio.

Joe comparing 2 slips from ennis and crandall where I couldn't go into 4th gear at the 1/8 and trapped 98mph at both places, I coasted to the 1/4, but there was a 4mph difference in trap speeds, so it looks like you would've have trapped 120mph on the best run...heard you decided to go with 3.73s instead, car should be done next week and we're talking about possibly going to an event at ennis on the 14th since the track doesn't hook as hard...sorry again man, Chris

Hey Chris no problem man! Thanks for your help and advice. I went with 3:90's, man it's going to be hard to put the required miles on the diff. before the 14th.

Joe
