Default Tires and rims sizes for DRs

Im getting the fever to take my car to the track and see how close to the 10s I can make it.

Its a Y2K C5 MN6 with 3.90 gears and just under 450 RWHP.

Im looking at the BFG g-Force™ T/A® Drag Radials, but what size tires should I get, and which rims are sized for the tires you recommend.

I talk with someone a while back and they said I could use the front size rims off a C5 Z06 and mount the DRs to them. Though the car will look a little silly.

Im looking for input of the tires you are using NOT to have any rubbing at launch.
Thanks
Phil

A search will give you results for every tire type out there.

Personally, I use the Hoosier 275/40/17 on polished front thinspokes. They match my front wheels fine - but not my GTO spares too well.

They stick!!!

Should give you 1.5xx 60' (or better) with practice.

Good luck

Agreed, either front wheel size will work w/ a 275/40, but w/ your power I'd run the wider rims to get more contact patch. Godspeed!

I hope you don't break anything Phil. Good luck. You should be able to trap in the 120's without a problem.

you can get the BFGs in a 18" and use rear C5 thin spokes.

No. I had them before my 17" Hoosiers. They work great and several on here have gotten 1.5xx 60s (not me though)

BFG Drag radials 295/35/18. fit great on 18" thinspokes.

Why did you drop down to 17s. Do the 60' times improve?

I was told, by some of the quickest drivers on here, that the Hoosiers were the tire I should go with.
So...
My BFGs were almost worn out, and I got a heck of a deal on a set of Hoosiers already mounted on 17s that matched my front wheels. That allowed me to put street tires back on my 18s.

My best 60' with both tires prior to getting my 4.10s was 1.72. But the Hoosiers were dramatically more consistant for me.

I know there are guys on here cutting good 60s with the BFGs. Dennis50NJ cut some rediculous times with his. He has a C6. I believe he holds the C6 bolt on record, but I'm not sure.

One more thing. With the BFGs, I felt pretty comfortable driving on the road, even in light rain. I would not suggest driving the Hoosiers in any rain at all.

Also, use stock GM wheels for your drag radials. The whole point of getting them is to go faster. Aftermarket wheels are almost always significantly heavier than OEM.
