Default Finally got into the 12's

I've got a 2002 6-speed with ECS installed American Racing Headers and GHL exhaust and I got into the 12's last night. My goal last night was to get into the 12's and I did better than I could have thought. My previous best time was 13.04.

Here was my best run.....
R/T - .470
60' - 2.086
330 - 5.640
1/8 - 8.457
MPH - 88.36
1000 - 10.830
1/4 - 12.832
MPH - 113.00

I ran this at Englishtown and the weather was 47-degrees last night. This is was still on the stock run-flats too!

My other runs included a 12.843, 13.001 and 13.007.

Is this about as fast as my car can go with these mods? If that is the best she'll do with these mods I wonder what an intake would do?!

Thanks!
Ken

First, congrats.. Great job.. Now to answer your question, yes! there is way too much left on the table. With your mods and the addition of Drag Radials, my calculations give me a best time of 12.17@~116-117. This would be in a perfect scenario with a 1.75 60' times minimum.

Not easy to do, but very attainable with practice.

With that kind of MPH on runflats I'd say you're capable of some 12.5-12.4 E.Ts. I also think you should pick up some drag radials as they're a very cost-effective way for you to drop your times.

Also, try and get YOUR best ET in the car as it sits before throwing more parts at it since learning how to drive the car is the CHEAPEST way to drop your times.

Those runflats are hurting you. I'd say mid 12s are reasonable if you have a tire you can get a decent 60' out of.

12.4 or 12.5 is possible in my car as is, really? The only mod I really have is headers. I can't see where I'm leaving that much? I can't leave much harder with the run flats. I've tried and all I do is lay too many wheels. I also do some small dry hops (next to the water pit) and the tires seems to stick as much as they are going to.

After I leave the line I'm power shifting (keeping gas to the floor and using clutch) from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 right at the red line. My slower times last night were me hitting the rev limiter so I know when I did get it right the shifts were as high as they could be. I can't power shift 1 to 2 as the car spins the tires too much.

I can see the car going that fast (12.4 or 12.5) with DR's. I think DR's would also make it easier to drag race?

And I thought a 12.83@113mph was good with my set-up

Your car has mid 12's written all over it. For example, my car with only a Vararam and Ti's on stock Runflats ran 12.5@112. You are trapping 1mph more then I was it should easily match my previous time just drop your 60' down to 1.9 and give her hell.

12.8s is good it just could be better Keep making passes and you will see your times drop. It just takes practice.

From what your describing, Your doing many things wrong(especially powershifting to name a few). If your happy with knowing your car could go mid 12's, then thats all that matters. But I certainly disagree and bet you can get low 12's instead. My suggestion would be to read and practice Ranger's techniques as much as possible before modding anything else.

I went back and looked at some old posts with Ranger responses (and other people), and it looks like power shifting works if I'm not losing traction on those shifts? Has this changed?

Like I said, I don't do it for 1-2 (too much tire spin), but do for 2-3 and 3-4. I run slower if I do not.

There is a base C5 coupe with a 6-speed runflats and headers only that does low 12's.........wow, I really suck then?!

Check the 1/4 mile sticky at the top of the page to get an idea of what other cars are running.

Powershifting didn't work for me. I gained .15 by not doing so. I also stopped shifting at redline which also netted gains. When I first started going to the track, I was running anywhere between 12.60's to 12.80's with my 60' being in the 2.0-2.1 range. With solely practicing shifting drills among other track techniques, I managed to get a best time of 12.20 (this was factory bone stock). Now with headers and CAI I managed to run 11's on radial tires. So believe me when I tell you that there is a lot left on the table for you. Your 60' times tell it all.

Best of Luck

Just went through the list and feel a lot better now. On the external engine mod list there are no coupe cars with just headers running faster than my 12.83. All the faster cars either had DR's, an Intake, or both along with the headers. There are 2-stock no-mod cars that ran faster but those drivers probably have way more passes than I have. I'm not looking to be the best driver, I just want to be in the range of what I should be running.

I'll post up my time on that thread.

First of all... welcome to the CF Performance Results forum. However, Caution! Drag Racing can become addictive.

I checked my old time slips and my best 60' time with non-run flats was 2.042. I think your 60' with run flats and top speed should put you in the mid 12's with DR's... as Ranger has said over and over... practice, practice, practice.

BTW don't forget to post your times on the sticky and then move up the list... it helps with the addiction.
Mark
