C5-R/9 sec/2000 Coupe Tear Down - Results Inside!
All you guys that know me are aware that I share all my info.:
Setup built 2003 Designed and installed by Dan Bills Owner Finish Line Performance, Naperville, Ill. 630-717-0824. Engine (427 C5R) by Scott Fulkerson owner of Midwest Engine Tech, Mokena, Ill. 815-464-9490. 4L60E Tranny by Chuck Johnson owner of Finish Line Transmission in Wood Dale, Il. 630-350-7776. 3.73 Rear End by Phil Rickard owner of Dynotech Engineering in Fort Wayne, In 260-407-5455. Driveshaft by Doug at East Coast Supercharging 609-752-0321.
Here Goes:
Car has 31,991 orig. miles, 400 1/4 mile runs total.
427 Motor has 8895 street miles and 200 runs.*
Transmission, Rear end and Drive shaft have 3,574 miles and 100 runs.*
*including the 2006 Hot Rod Magazine drag Week event during which I drove the Vette 1855 miles in a week sometimes 10 hours on the road PULLING a 1600lb trailer running 9.80's at each dragstrip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
Due to new technology in the heads and valve train areas Dan Bills and I decided to "UPGRADE" the set up and push the 9 sec. times down to high 8's.
Tear down results:
Motor: NO SIGNS OF WEAR!
Heads & Valve Train: ONE COMP HYDROLIC LIFTER SHOWED SIGNS OF A ROLLER PIN STARTING TO FAIL (resulting in the decision to replace lifters each year and limit risk)!
Transmission: SHOWED NO SIGNS OF WEAR! (Will still teardown and inspect yearly)
Rear End: SHOWED NO SIGNS OF WEAR! (Will still tear down and inspect yearly)
Suspension: After 7 years needed 2 upper control arms and all the tie rod ends (What do you expect after doing all those WHEELIES?)
Incredible Results of GREAT QUALITY work if you ask me!!!!
