Default 7 HP Husky compressor with only 11.8 cfm at 40 lbs??

I've come accross a barter deal that will give me this 7 hp Home Depot Husky compressor. Suprisingly it has only a 60 Gallon tank (not an 80) and the output seems real low for a 7 HP unit:
11.8 cfm at 40
10.3 cfm at 90
135psi max

It will certainly be an upgrade to my 1 hp Craftman but even that puny unit is rated at 6.9 @ 40 and 5.80@ 90.

I used the Craftsman for previous lacquer jobs and used it to Gel Coat my 1969 but it is unsuitable for my new HVLP gun.

Is this Husky 7HP unit OK for me. I need it for the one Gel Coat job and for top coat jobs on 2 cars. Thanks.

Some years ago the hp rating was "unregulated". Basically they measured it at turn-on when it more or less shortens the circuit. That's how they got "7 hp". Eventually there was a class action lawsuit about it which made some more lawyers a few millions and the practice stopped. Now they're rated at "running hp" which is much lower. The units haven't changed, just the sticker.

You can run both in parallel and you'd get well over 15 CFM @ 40 PSI. Should be enough. Running in parallel will also increase your tank size.

Something doesn't sound right. Home Depot's 60 gallon Husky air compressors now state 3.8 horespower 11.5 cfm @ 90 and 13.4 @ 40. Is this a 110 or 220 volt compressor?

What Zwede says makes sense. This in reality sounds like not even a 5hp with that air flow for a 220 unit

How many CFMs does your gun require?

That compressor would probably work but I think it would be borderline. I'm looking at the Home Depot 3 cylinder would would never run out of air. I'm trying to see if they will accept the Harbor Frt 25% coupon which I hear some people are successful at getting some stores to accept. The guns I have now need what 7hp puts out but if I get a better gun for the top coat, I'll need more air.

Best of luck. I have the one linked below, not hooked up yet. According to Devilbiss this is enough for my Tekna and Sharp says it will be enough if I get an LPH400. Wish I could have bought a bigger one but I have to watch weight as mine is mounted in the front of my enclosed car trailer so when I retire it will always be with me.

That looks like a killer price. I will have to investigate that a bit and ck airflows. Maybe I don't need a 5hp/3 cylinder. THANKS☺
