Default What do I use to paint under the hood?

In the past I've just used Krylon Satin out of a spray bomb. Is that OK or should it be spray gun sprayed with something - like maybe Epoxy primer, then a paint?

That is what I'm going to do with mine. I have a '64 with factory air and want to protect the paint from the compressor oil.

If the car is a Non-SMC car...I apply black gelcoat. This will make is absolutely certain that oil and "what-have-you" that gets on the underside of the hood will not penetrate the fiberglass and damage the exterior paint. After I gelcoat it...I then apply a black epoxy primer and then either leave it or apply a semi-gloss/satin black single stage paint that I mix on my paint machine.

If it is a SMC hood...I apply the black epoxy and either leave it or apply the same single stage semi-gloss/satin paint.

I used U-Pol's raptor liner on the underneath of my hood... It is tintable or comes in black... Sure that will provide ample protection from underhood buffoonery... Very easy to spray, but stinks to high you know what...
