I am trying to paint alot of the plastic pieces inside my engine bay. I am using the following paints:
The primer is SEM flexible primer surfacer spray, the base says R-M diamont polyester basecoat and written in GM 19 WA933L (then it was put into a spray bottle). The clearcoat is Krylon tough coat 01000 Clear Gloss Topcoat.
I wanted to know if this is the right procedure.
sand the plastic piece with some 800 grit. Put 2 layers of primer on and then sand that down with 800 grit. Let it dry overnight. Then do 2-3 layers of basecoat. Let it dry overnight. Then apply 2 layers of clear. Let Dry Overnight. Buff it using rotary and rubbing compound. Add polish then wax.
Is this right? Can anyone give suggestions. Do I do anything different since its onto plastic and not metal. Do I need to do any kind of sanding before the clear but after the BC. The reason for waiting overnight between paints is I dont want any of the steps to react with each other. Also should I do more than two layers of Clear coat to make sure theres enough on there to be able to buff without touching paint.
Ive done a couple test things, and my main concern is that while up close and in the light there is alot of sparkle. As soon as you get out of direct sunlight or go further you cant see any sparkle and it just looks like a shiny blue. As opposed to on the car its much more apparent its a sparkle.
Any help would be appreciated!
