front clip attachment

How difficult is it to attach the front clip? I am looking at a 63 project that does not have a front clip. It would obviously be a "project". From what I understand the body needs to be mounted to the frame after it has been checked for straightness and then the clip is added and shimmed, then bonded. Does this sound about right? I obviously have not done this before. The thought on this car would be to make a resto mod. I would love to have a hot rodded mid year w/o taking a viable restoration out of circulation. Anyone have any pics? I have not purchased the project. I want to know what I am looking at before being stuck with a mess.

Yes, You are pretty much on point with your thoughts on installing a front clip. I have photo's also that I can send you. PM me with your e-mail adddress and I would be more than glad to show you some of the photo's that I have. It also depends if you are planninig on installing a one-piece front clip (press-molded factry style or handlaid fiberglass)....or installing the front clip pieces one at a time with all of the required bonding strips.

Just remember that it is not much differnt than building a plastic model car...the only differences is the scale, materials used and adhesives. It is a lot of pre-fit and measuring before bonding...much like a plastic model car....that is if you took your time in building plastic model cars so they looked good when completed....or just slapped the parts together and glued it up because you were in a hurry to see your model car completed....like I used to do when I was younger. Just could not wait and take the time back then. NOW it is completely different...I TAKE THE TIME and have learned GREAT PATIENCE.

Some others on the forum...like "wombvette" for example...may have pictures of his work that he (they) may post.

Thanks for the link. That's about what this car I'm looking at buying looks like, just trashed. My guess of the cost if I were to have it done would be is about $3k not including the clip. Is that about right or relatively close?

How much are your clips? It would ship to Austin,TX.
