Well I got my new compressor and Iwata gun,,, so now it's time to try to paint the z06 rear quarters. The plan is just to paint the quarters,, no blending by me. That said,,, based on my reading here [I know the factory used Dupont paints. So the questions is should I use Dupont paints for the quarters hoping it will be a better match,,, or can I stick with any quality paint (i.e. PPG) and expect a close match?
All the quality paint manufacturer's have colors that are 'blendable', some better than others, some, not so good.
Black, go by the color code cause black isnt black anymore(I dont like guessing), other than that, 3 types of black, tinting(low strength), brown hue(hi strength) and blue hue(jet black).
And if your that concerned about color match, get your color code(8555??)and see what DuPont(ChromaPremier) and PPG(DBC,Global) offers.

TOTALLY with "ragtopman"
If you are planning on painting the quarters...and NOT blending. YOU better shoot a "spray out card" and clear it...so you can check it against the adjacent panels...and if needed.... get the color tinted ...due the color mixed is not going to be close enough to make it a good "butt-match" color. There are soooooo many variants and variables to colors...that usinig the "prime" or "number one" formula does not mean anything. AND when it is being mixed...by a human...the amounts of the different toners or pigments and be off due to an extra drop or two of this or that. That is why I mentioned shooting a "spray out card"....or a test panel. Just make sure that your adjacent panels are polished well so you get the best color to check against possible.
i would blend if it were me, just to be safe. wouldnt take that much longer to prep. plus, the factory painted the car by machine, in X degrees of temp, at Y distance from panel, at Z speed. hard to mach those variables
