Well tonight is the night. Im getting in the booth. I will finally get some epoxy sealer and primer on the hood, bumpers and t-tops. Washed everything yesterday without solvents per the data sheets. Some say solvents, mine says not. If I expect the manufactuer to warranty the material I'll follow the directions. I know a lot of people solvent wash first but it clearly states not to. I'll report back with an update.
Well the epoxy went on great. Couple little drips..no biggie. Using SPI 2k hi build it seemed as though it I couldnt get enough to come out of the gun. I made sure to get at least a coat on everything. Now after I sprayed it it was very course feeling on the surface and dried very quick. So should I be adding an ounce or two of reducer to get it to flow? Or is this normal and I just have to hit it with a couple more coats??? Also is a 1.4 tip too fine for primer??

are you running it wide open ? make sure your fan is not open too far. i shoot everything with my 1.4 iwata and have no problem getting it wet. reduce it some , turn fluid wide open and close down the fan a little. what gun are you using ? pressure ?
I'll check the brand. I was using about 30psi. It drops to about 20 when shooting. I had the spray wide and almost all the way open on the air. I do have another gun that is 1.5 or 1.6 I believe as they were loaned to me.. Gonna do some testing this weekend. But the consensus is I should be able to lay it down so its wet and not dry...correct? I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Ive done a general cleaning each time but not a full breakdown. The epoxy was spraying good though. Dont worry about my feelings. You guys are the pros. Im not gonna get hurt feelings from anything you say porchdog. Im a beginner at the lowest level. I appreciate any, and all input.
i got in a hurry a few weeks ago. getting a bunch of stuff in epoxy. i rinsed the gun good each use. came back a few days later to finish. gun started ok then went to sh$t. broke it down and got the chunk of epoxy out and all was good. lacquer thinner does weird things to epoxy. it will turn it to rubber quick. plus clean up thinner is junk to start with. i normally break down and clean every time i use my gun. it sets in the cabinet until it is needed again. just a thought.
Ray, I sprayed SPI . Reg 2 K reduced by 20% through a 1.4 gun and I was wishing for a 1.8 tip.
My amateur take is that using a larger tip will allow you to contend with the job at hand of leveling high/low spots and not having to deal with an overly ruff surface.
No way would I attempt to spray High build with a 1.4. Definitely try reducing to the max, which I think is 25%, if you want to press on with the 1.4. LOL

you can shoot primer with a 1.4 just fine. the recommended tip for regular build is 1.4 -2.0 . the high build calls for a 1.5 to 2.0 .gun adjustment and speed are the #1 reasons for problems shooting primer. i have not used my 2.0 since i bought the iwata. the high build will need reduction of no more than 25%. if you have a larger gun then use it but i would not buy a gun to shoot it. remember this high build is very thick and takes more time to mix.
