Default painting bumpers question

i just got my new rear bumper for my 1980 and i still need to paint both the front and rear bumpers now.

when i bought my paint from orilleys auto i asked them about flex for the front and rear bumpers they told me i did not need to put flex into the paint.(i thought flex agent was suppose to mix with the color im lost)

instead he gave me a product called (bulldog paint adhesion and flex agent) the problem is it says to spray this on the bumpers and then primer, color, and clear.

i need some advice on this

paint products im using

nason bc/cc
nason clear
nason 2k primer

thanks for the help

Contact NASON directly. You should use a flex-additive in the primer and the clearcoat...but generally NOT in the basecoat. I do not use NASON so I truely cant tell you if it is needed in the basecoat. If these bumpers are raw urethane. Care should be taken to make sure that they are correctly prepped BEFORE anything is applied to them due to the mold release wax that is possibly on it/them. DO not wipe the raw urethane with ANY SOLVENT. There is a special water based cleaner(s0 that is/are designed for urethane parts.

Do not use a stripper or anything else on your bumpers until you talk to both the suppliers of your parts, and Nason to ensure you use approved products for prep and paint. BTW, why would you apply stripper to a brand new part?

i still have to remove paint from front bumper

and the new rear bumper has a black coating on it,i dont know much about the coating on it.

i ordered the new rear bumper from just corvettes, they are mainly into salvage but sell new parts to,i payed 322.20 for it because they have ran into a problem finding me a new door.

the rear bumper came with no instruction sheet from the manufacturer just like most things i order from other parts places.

if i was in the bussiness of producing a rear bumper at my factory i would make sure to supply my customers with a tech sheet on what they should do and not do with my bumpers.

and the other reason is i dont know if this black primer ,i suppose is going to stick to the bumper im leary of spraying my 2000 torch red paint and clear on something i dont know if it was sprayed right in the first place.

this is why im thinking of taking it off and spraying my primer, color and clear.

thanks for the help guys im going to have to study on this and call nason tomorrow and talk to them about the flex additive.

You are putting the "cart before the horse".

Stripping off black primer from a bumper...will possibly cause the bumper to swell and may create more issues that you may want. Call who you bought the bumper from and see what they can tell you about what they sold you. The primer may be just fine.
