Default Woohoo! Car is in paint!

It's been a long road but as of this afternoon my '71 is finally red again.

Color is off a little due to the cellphone camera. It's Torch Red.

And some random pictures from the last 2 years:

Rear ender damaged the tail light panel, deck and left quarter. Right quarter was patched from previous damage so everything got cut off.

Some sand blasting and paint later the frame looked good.

Right quarter & taillight panel from Corvette Image, deck and left quarter NOS. Everything fit real well.

Once the paint was stripped on the front it turned out all the front panels were patched beyond saving. We replaced the surround and left fender, both from Corvette Image. Again the fit and finish was first class.

Random work in progress...

Headlights are blocked to surround and gaps are finalized. The work on the hood has just begun... The hood was one of the biggest tasks on the car as it needed lots of work to fit right.

Some primer shows the headlight fit.

Cleaned up, ready for paint.

Mike spraying a T-Top

And here's me spraying away

Mike (tracdogg2), you did an incredible job on that bodywork and panel replacement. I can't believe how straight the damn panels are. Definitely the best body guy in all of North America!!!

Congrats on the paint job Markus! I am truly jealous of your feat

The reason his car came out so beautiful is not because of the paint shop. They just sprayed the color.

I'm very happy with them. Tim (owner) is also the only one who shoots paint. He has consistently kept me up to date on progress. Nice guy also.

More pictures. Unfortunately the photo hosting site forcibly compresses the pictures and they don't look nearly as good as the originals. But it should give you an idea of the shine.

Pretty amazing. If that's single stage it looks great. If you still have to sand ,sand and more sand, cut and polish...I cant wait to see the outcome. It looks sweet in the pic now. Cant even imagining it looking better. Hope to seal mine next week. I plan to spi epoxy seal, light sand for imperfections (block), Refill with Rage Gold and reassess. Best thing I did was go to the local college. Now I have a very nice booth to do it in.

It's PPG BC/CC. The base is DBU, the clear is 2021 concept. The last pictures are after cut & buff. I'm more than happy with the results. It looks even better in person.

Nice job Mike (tracdogg2). You did an amazing job on the fiberglassing, panel replacement and primering!

Looks great Markus. I hope I can see it in person one day.

Credit list:

Mike Dyer (tracdogg2) did the cutting, panels, shaping, blocking etc

I did some of the glassing, primer & blocking (the headlights are all mine! )

Tim @ T&A auto did the paint.

A collaborative effort that turned out way better than I thought possible..

That's for sure. The pics don't do it justice. Amazing what you can do with a coke can and some paint sticks.
