Default Paint Jobs

I'm looking at a car that has the paint stripped and is ready for a new coat. I was wondering how much you guys paid for a paint job and how much I should expect to pay. I don't want a show quality job, just something that shines when I wax it and cruise. Also, there is a shop in town that bakes the paint on. Is there an advantage to a "baked on" paint job? Thanks for any help and suggestions.

It's all in the prep! The best paint in the world will look like crap if your bodywork in not correct. I spent just over $10,000 which included body work, parts, and paint job. I took mine to someone who specialized in Corvette's so it just depends on what you want and how much you are willing to pay for the best.

curtis74, that paint job looks great. The body needs no work. I think it just needs to be blocked and painted. I'm not a paint guy though, so I am not 100% sure. I guess I am willing to spend 3 - 5k on a paint job. Is that reasonable or way too cheap?

Matt,

I had Goat at Goat's custom auto body here in Columbia do it. His shop is right across the street from the main entrance to Cosmo Park. He does only Hot Rods and special projects. Stop by and see his stuff sometime. I used to ask around at car shows about who was the best and everyone used to bring up his name. His work is great when it comes to customizing of fabrication. It took me over a year to get the car into him as he was booked solid.

Shark Mann,

Again, it really depends on what is found under the paint. If no body work is needed then I suppose you could get something for around 3K to 5K. I'm guessing closer to the 5K mark. If you go with a dark color like black, you'll want to get the prep right or it will show!

If you can get the car to Nashville TN. (LittleJake) PM him. I think this is what your looking for. Grest guy, very helpful and you'll get a very nice paint job that won't cost you an arm and a leg.

That's really cool. I'd love to stop by his shop and see his work.

There are very few C3's being repainted that do not require some body work. Almost all have some stress cracks.

Still not sure about that baked on thing. The guy swears that his paint will last longer and be stronger because he bakes it on. Anyone dealt with this before or is he just ing me?

Helps with final finish, as the paint can flow smooth when baked, less wet sanding and polishing after painting.

Also, at least in '69, the factory paint job was baked.
