Melting Slicks
SO SAD!!
Didn't look like that much of a slide area. Coming back from the Oregon Coast last Saturday, saw a lot of areas with clear cut. Surprised these haven't slipped yet!

It's being reported that the death toll will more than likely go up. No survivors have been found today and some are saying that there may not be any survivors.
The slide area was about 4400 feet wide, just as long and something like 20-30 feet deep. Given the weather report for the area (more rain) for this week, it's possible that more of that hill could give way.
At least now there are a large number of rescue workers on the scene, both from the WA National Guard and some professional search/rescue crews. But if the mudflow doesn't stabilize, they may not be able to get into the slide area or stay for any length of time. One report said that some rescue workers took 5 minutes to walk 40 feet because of the quicksand nature of the mud.

Couple of summers ago, a group of about 15 to 20 Corvettes cruised across the North Cascades Highway, had lunch in Twisp, and returned one Saturday. On the way there we drove on that particular stretch of road that is now under several feet of mud. I remember thinking to myself what a beautiful area that was. I could see why people would want to live there.
Any of you guys remember that cruise?
Thoughts and prayers for those families...
