Default Any good LS2 cam installers in Tacoma?

Hey maybe someone here can help me out.

I was thinking about going with a more aggressive cam. I don't know anything about cam swaps or how much they cost.. I plan on buying a used cam, then possibly taking it somewhere in the tacoma area to have it installed. Any suggestions?

I would contact Wong's Performance Engineering down in Vancouver. Tom (do a search fo "tjwong") is well-respected here for his quality work on Corvettes. You really want a good performance shop that is knowledgable in Corvette engines to handle this.

DO NOT buy a used cam unless you have it checked out by a competent machine shop. Too many things can go wrong with a used cam; there could be enough wear on a lobe to cause problems and you probably won't be able to see obvious issues unless you know what to look for.

There are other things to consider too. Too much valve lift may cause binding on the springs; the cam profile may be too much for the PCM to compensate for and that would require a tune. Not many shops have the technology or the experience to do that especially if they don't know any of the cam specs.

Amen to Tom, I am only 3 miles form his shop and can walk there. There are a lot of "vetters" who have come down from your area for a Wong's Performance tune on their car. One important item is that he has great customer service besides great knowledge of the Corvette engine lineage.

Dont go cheap, do it right and you will be satisfied.

Defiantly contact Tom (tjwong). Give him a call @ 360-695-9433 or send PM through the forum. There are reasons us vette owners in the Pacific Northwest use Mr Wong.

I wouldn't mess around. Best to get it done right and be happy.

Regarding a used cam. Humm... doubt I would buy a used cam considering the price of a new one, but ask Tom his opinion. He is a straight up guy and will not steer you wrong.

I have an appointment with Tom this Thursday. He is the best of both worlds. Tom is an intelligent engineer and a lover of Corvettes. These two qualities allow him to dial up BIG power for your engine. Plus, he's a hell of a good guy.

Thanks for the advice. I'll just buy a new cam from Mr. Wong and probably have him install it. Sometime this year.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to have it installed? thanks

There are way too many options to get a quote from us. Besides the cam, there are possible valve springs, pushrods, tune, etc that all make a package. You need to tell Tom what your goals are and then he can give you a parts and labor quiote. thre is a certain amount of labor in volved installing the cam and there are other things to consider while the parts are dissambled. What you want to avoid is to do double labor on some modifications.

I went with a head and cam package and long tube headers for my mods.

good luck

New to the forum eh??? "There can be only one" what you need is to have an open mind, and to call,.........503-784-9345. T.J.Wong has made a lot of winners around this area of the world and most of us had to drive a lot longer than you will have too.
