Default First time to the 1/4 mile track in the Z.

Well finally made it out to the track to get a baseline on the new car. Conditions weren't bad. Clear cold air and a sticky track.

The car is still completely stock to include the tires. I've spent a lot of time doing this type of racing and felt confident I would be able to pull off a good run or two. Ok so I was wrong. I'll list all three of my passes and then go in to a little detail regarding what is going on.

Pass 1:
2.3 60 ft.
12.38 @ 121 mph

Pass 2:
2.1 60 ft.
12.31 @ 118 mph

Pass 3:
2.1 60 ft.
12.20 @ 121 mph

To begin with all three launches were terrible. All were my fault. I let the clutch out to fast and the car lurched, bogged and then shot out of the hole. This was my first time to the track this year and I was really excited and did not control myself very well. Plus the fact that I have next to no seat time in this car did not help, as well as driving the Camaro the last two weeks which has a considerably heavier clutch pedal etc... Basically I need some more practice. A couple more times out to the track and I will be cutting 1.8 - 1.9 60 fts. on street tires. I used to cut 1.9 regularly in my C5 Z.

My shifts could also use improvement. On the second pass I had to really let off on the 1-2 shift due to spin and and the back end stepping out. In all my other cars once moving I always jump straight back on the gas with each gear change. I may have to roll onto the gas with this car on the 1 -2 shift if it brakes the back loose again. Something else that will need practice.

Overall I can't say that I am pleased but at least the problems all rest on my shoulders. I need more seat time and practice to really get the most out of this car. It's the biggest challenge I have had when it comes to getting the power down and efficiently. A 1.9 60ft and some decent shifting will put me in the 11.6 - 11.8 range. The MPH is there so the car has it in it. It's just a matter of me extracting it.

I totally agree with that, your MPH is definately there for mid-high 11's.

I think that's great forthe first time out with the car, and I'm sure you must have had fun too

Looks like you improved with each pass.
Got there and back without breaking the car.
Had fun.

Nothing wrong with that.

Bremerton.

Pacific Raceway is having it's official "Open" next weekend and Friday the 4th is test and tune from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Weather looks bad but at this point I am planning on going.

Cool...I have not yet taken the car to the track. Is Pacific Raceway open every weekend here on out?

Those are good numbers for the fist time with the Z. I can't wait to see the times when you start cutting some good 60 foot numbers.

The track is open pretty much from here on out but they do not offer very many test and tunes days until May. If you want to do that type of racing you will have to actually compete against others.

Thanks. Fingers crossed for next Friday. I know I will run my first 11.XX on the 4th weather permitting.
